Reducing your electric bill by over $350 could be done with a simple switch, one savings expert has claimed.
TikToker Stacy recently shared a video where the quickest way to save power and save big bucks is to turn off the circuit breaker.
Stacy, who is known as the alchemy goddess on TikTok, shared that while she was living in Florida, she moved into a very upscale apartment from the projects.
She mentioned that while she lived in the projects, most of her bills were paid as she received government support.
However, when she moved, that quickly ended when her first bill shocked her – $400.
She decided to check with her electric utility, JEA, on Facebook for tips on how to cut costs.
The one that they felt worked best was turning off the circuit breakers.
This simple step reduced her bill from $400 to eventually $40.
Every time she left the house for an extended period of time, she turned off the circuit breaker.
“Why do I need electricity in my house when I’m not there,” she said on TikTok.
The only thing she left on was the circuit breaker on her fridge to keep her food from spoiling.
Another tip Stacy swears by is her grandfather, who worked for Edison for decades.
She said one tip he gave her was actually a big misunderstanding about turning off the lights.
Most of us have heard it before: “Turn off all lights in the house when you leave the room.”
And sure, that can help when you leave your house or apartment for long periods of time.
But if you’re still in your seat and keep turning them off and on when you leave a room, it’s actually costing you.
“If it shuts down, now it has to start up again. And every time it has to boot up again when you turn on the light switch, it draws so much energy,” Stacy said in the video.
She said it’s best to either leave them on or turn them off for long periods of time.
