I’m a money man—my part-time job made me $1,800 and I didn’t do any physical labor

EVERYONE is looking for a part-time job to make money quickly without putting in too much work.

A man who says he’s tried almost every side job has decided to check those two boxes in particular.

Working as a subcontractor allowed this man to get paid without physical labor

Eric Martin from @EricMartinMoney on TikTok says working as a subcontractor is a great way to get into the business and make thousands of dollars.

Eric owns a concrete company and acts as a subcontractor – he is the middleman between customers and companies who can complete the projects they want.

He is then paid by the customer, pays the contractor and keeps the profit.

In a recent video, Eric explained how he made $1,800 from a specific job.

A client approached him about having a concrete deck installed in his backyard.

In the comments, he said he charges $12 per square foot, so he gave customers an estimate of around $4,600.

After they agreed, he found a contractor to do the job for just $2,000.

He supplied the concrete himself, which cost $800.

Once the job was done, he paid the contractor and still made an $1,800 profit on what he spent on concrete.

It is important to note that this is not always the case.

Disadvantages of subcontracting

How much you earn as a subcontractor depends on what the contractor charges to complete the job.

If you’re looking for something with a steady income, you might want to find something else.

According to Field Wire, taxes could also become more complicated no matter how few jobs you take.

While subcontractors are not technically required to have insurance, it is better to have one.

Many customers and contractors might be wary of working with a subcontractor who doesn’t have insurance, reports Next Insurance.

This would cover things like property damage and personal injury.

Even if the client does have general liability insurance, it is unlikely that it will extend to a contractor injured in their home.

Find subcontractor jobs

GoBridgit explains that most states, cities, and counties have websites listing ongoing construction jobs that subcontractors can bid on.

They and many others bid to get the job, and it’s up to the client to decide what to pay and who to choose.

PlanHub is a great resource for finding commercial construction jobs.

Construction Bid Source allows subcontractors to search and bid for jobs in one place.

Other popular side hustles

Travis Davis, who runs the My Big Dumb Life account, posted a video in October 2021 showing how he made money transporting and recycling cardboard.

He said that loose cardboard can be sold for $125 to $140 a ton, while pressed cardboard costs $170 to $180 a ton.

As he explained, cardboard was baled and bundled into ‘bales’, while loose boxes contain all other unbaled materials.

Travis had an existing recycling and garbage disposal business, and he used the connections he made to start collecting cardboard.

The recycling center he used offered $180 per ton of cardboard bales, so Travis made $560.70 for his load.

After accounting for expenses, Travis said he made around $500.
