I’m a mom – I had to lug around my Walmart cart after its anti-theft wheels locked and I was stranded with two kids

A Florida mom posted a TikTok video capturing the moment she struggled with the anti-theft device on a Walmart cart.

“When the anti-theft wheels lock before you’ve even made it to the shopping cart and the car is still fifty meters away,” says a digital voiceover in the video.

The locked wheel of the wagon rendered the wagon ineffective as the mother struggled to move the wagon a small distance.

One of the two children is fighting in the stroller behind the cart.

The video’s caption reads, “I’m a mom — I had to lug my Walmart shopping cart around after its anti-theft wheels locked and I was stranded with two kids.”

She said, “Why Walmart?”

The creator also chided Gainesville, Florida in the video.

“I hate Gainesville,” she wrote with a facepalm emoji.

Commentators on the video also shared their own difficulties with Walmart carts.

One commenter said: “Happened to us once. I hate Gainesville too.”

Another said: “I don’t understand how people manage to get them past the border without locking them up.”

Another commenter used the video as a reason not to go to Walmart: “Another reason I haven’t set foot in a Walmart in years.”

Walmart and theft

Walmart introduced anti-theft wheels on its carts to deter customers from stealing.

The move to anti-theft devices is part of Walmart’s strategy to reduce theft.

Walmart has reported an increase in thefts in the US and said they may have to respond with higher prices and store closures.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon told CNBC Squawk Box, “It’s higher than it’s been in the past.”

McMillon said law enforcement should be allowed to address the reported increased theft.
