I’m a mechanic – I used to ask my dad for help with the car, now I’ve come full circle and I’m rebuilding his vehicle

A FEMALE mechanic demonstrated how her work experience benefits others when she is free.

The knowledgeable technician filmed herself via TikTok helping out with a challenging engine rebuild, with several viewers applauding her work ethic.

Hills’ TikTok clip (@heavytech_hills) features overlay text: “Proud full circle moment engaged: when you went to your dad about everything with vehicles etc. (sic). Now that you’re the mechanic, you’re teaching him how to reassemble his snowmobile engine.”

Hills is currently expanding her car knowledge by taking two Red Seal courses.

A Red Seal endorsement is typically a dealer’s best qualification in Canada, where Hills works, reports Vocational Schools and Colleges.

Canadian employers consider certification to be proof of ability in a particular job.

To earn Red Seal certification, you must be registered as an apprentice.

A viewer commented on Hill’s TikTok: “Great. Your father must be proud.”

Hills replied, “That’s him! I mean, I think he would have liked to tell people his daughter is a lawyer if I had graduated from university; but he thinks diesel mechanics are much cooler!”

Another TikTok account wrote: “Very great and beautiful mechanic you are!”

But Hill’s experience as a mechanic in a traditionally male-dominated industry hasn’t always been smooth sailing.

In a separate TikTok clip, Hills cited a negative experience with a former male colleague as the last straw in her career.

The overlay text on this clip read, “I need that old white guy who tried to ruin my career in this business when I asked to be paid like the boys and told me my ‘education’ and experience meant nothing to knowing that I am alive and Well I am making triple that, thriving with my own service truck and working towards becoming a dual red seal with a boss who recognizes my abilities and potential.

One viewer wrote: “Sounds like you used his negativity as a motivational springboard.

“Get over anyone who gets in your way!”
