I’m a lottery expert – you get your numbers all wrong if you want to beat a chance at a 302 million jackpot

A LOTTERY expert revealed why you’re picking the wrong numbers, but admitted that given the odds, there’s no secret formula to winning.

Lottery Now President Rich Wheeler told The Sun that you can increase your chances of winning the life-changing jackpots by avoiding a few common mistakes.

Lotto players have devised endless strategies to beat the one in 302 million odds on games like Mega Millions, but many of them are flawed.

“Honestly, there’s no methodology, rhyme or reason,” Wheeler exclusively told The Sun.

For example, some players like to look at the latest winning numbers before writing their ticket as they believe this gives them an advantage.

Wheeler brought up a casino scenario to show that this is just a ploy to get more people to gamble.

“In a roulette example, if you see seven red numbers, they’ll think, ‘Oh, black will hit soon,’ and they’ll bet on black,” Wheeler said.

“But there is an equal chance that another red number will be drawn.

“Since a number was drawn in the last draw, it has no greater or lesser chance of being drawn in this draw.”

Many players choose numbers that are special to them, like an anniversary or birthday, but Wheeler warned that this could hurt your potential winnings.

Of course, these lower numbers stand as good a chance as anyone else, but the date formula is so common that you could end up sharing the jackpot with others.

“So, pick numbers that are kind of unusual,” Wheeler told The Sun.

“Higher numbers in the 50s and 60s.

“There could be a better chance that if you hit the jackpot you’ll have it all to yourself.”

Still, Wheeler said that some people who have their favorite numbers are better off sticking with them since they’ll regret changing them.

“I’ve heard so many stories from people saying they didn’t pick them for a week and they showed up,” Wheeler said.

“It’s the bane of regular numbers. If you have any, make sure you play them.”

So choose unusual numbers.

So if every number really has an equal chance of being drawn, how do you increase your odds?

Wheeler says it might take some teamwork.

“Let’s say you want to win that billion dollar jackpot,” he said, referring to last week’s massive Mega Millions prize.

“The best way to increase your chances of getting at least a share is to play in a group.”

The lottery expert suggested getting a group of friends or colleagues together and splitting up a pool of tickets to increase the odds in a fun way.

However, Mega Millions and Powerball are not the only ways to win big.

Wheeler told The Sun that watching local lotto games is far better than shooting for national prizes.
