I’m a hairdresser – how to revitalize thinning hair with a cheap formula and why it works

BEAUTY influencers and regular women everywhere on TikTok are praising a “potion” that reportedly strengthens hair, encourages new growth and prevents breakage.

Better still, scientists and stylists agree that the ritual that could help hair reach lengths never seen before is true.

At the heart of the solution is rosemary, which is delivered as a “tea” made from cooked sprigs or through essential oils mixed with a carrier.

The formula is simple, and different devotees have their own variations on the mixture: after boiling water and adding sprigs of fresh or dried rosemary, cook the mixture for five minutes, stirring frequently.

Then turn off the heat and let the mixture sit covered with a lid for 45 minutes.

After straining the water and placing it in a spray bottle, it can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.

Spray the solution onto the scalp and massage in before bed.

Or, before shampooing, add three to five drops of rosemary essential oil to a carrier oil like almond, coconut, or jojoba oil.

Massage into scalp and leave on for about an hour, then wash hair as usual.

Dramatic before and after videos seem to show results – but why does the formula work?

Vickie Vidov, a famous hairstylist, told Well and Good that she recommends rosemary as a scalp exfoliator to encourage growth.

“It helps in clearing the scalp of debris or blockages of the follicle,” Vidov explained.

Product build is an aesthetic issue, but also a major impediment to new growth.

Build-up “contributes to hair thinning and eventual hair loss,” Vidov said.

Additionally, a clinical review published in the BMJ suggests that the essential oil may help stimulate cells when massaged into the scalp.

The cleansing of the scalp banishes buildup and the stimulation encourages new growth.

The combined effect is rapid, noticeable growth, which explains why people of all ages are praising the herb online.
