“When I got my job at Walmart and we did the tour… they took us to the security room where the loss prevention is located,” Athenia claimed.

She shared a photo of what the loss prevention room looks like.

“It’s a bunch of computers and it shows you every aisle,” she said. “And they have pinch-in zoom cameras with 360-degree rotation, which means they can rotate literally anywhere in the store.”

Athenia explains that the cameras can zoom in extremely far.

“They can literally read your text messages if they really want to.”

She gave an example from her professional training and explained that one of the loss prevention officers zoomed in so far “that you could literally read the date in the newspaper”.

“They wanted to show us and make it clear that if you get caught stealing from Walmart, they will see you.”

The clip received thousands of comments, and many customers complained about the cameras.

“But when someone stole my wallet they said the cameras couldn’t see that close,” one person wrote.

“Well my Walmart needs some more pinching and zooming because I’m tired of cleaning up my department because people want to steal $5 phone cases,” wrote another.

In another video, Athenia said, “We have this thing called Asset Protection Loss Prevention.

“In my store we had two people … they walked through the store from morning to night when we closed.

“They looked like normal shoppers, they wore gym shorts, they wore normal clothes.”

Camacho said “they intervene in many situations,” but they exist primarily to “or look for customers who are stealing or putting things in their pockets or putting things in their purses.”

She went on to explain that if the accused wanted to leave before the police arrived, he was welcome to do so.

“They will stop you,” she said. “But as far as I know, they can’t hold you.”
