I’m a former Premier League footballer who only learned how to do my own laundry by going on loan

CARLTON MORRIS has no regrets over the 14 years he spent in Norwich.

The Luton striker returns to Carrow Road on Tuesday for the first time since leaving the club last year.

But despite joining the Canary Islands youth system at the age of 11, he left the club after playing just 13 minutes in the first-team.

And that was more than seven years ago, when Nathan Redmond came on as a late substitute in a 1-0 home defeat to Wigan in the Championship.

He was never given a glimpse and was instead loaned out to Oxford, York, Hamilton, Rotherham (twice), Shrewsbury and MK Dons (twice) before moving to Yorkshire in January 2021.

He did, however, score 14 goals in 32 starts for Barnsley before the Hatters snapped him up in the summer and he’s driving great this season with six goals from 11 starts under manager Nathan Jones.

He said: “I have absolutely no regrets about my time at Norwich.

“I’m the person I am today because of all the loans I’ve taken out. Since I was 18 I’ve always moved around the country and even to Scotland.

“I had to play under different managers. I cannot put into words how much I have learned. I am who I am today because of what I’ve been through.

“I learned so many life skills — simple things like not bringing my mum home to wash because I wasn’t home and had to fend for myself.

“I’m 26 now and I’m grateful for the path I’ve walked so far, but I’m not done yet. It’s time to really give my all.

“I came on for Norwich in that one game but didn’t get another chance after that. The timing just didn’t work for me.

“I wasn’t able to give anyone at Norwich the choice to play me. They are a great club and I will forever be grateful for everything they have done for me.”

Ahead of this trip to Norwich, Luton are hosting high-flying QPR at Kenilworth Road today.

The Hatters are unbeaten in five games and Morris’ form was such that he won the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award in September.

Elijah Adebayo has proven to be the perfect match up front.
He said: “Eli is a brilliant footballer and I love playing with him. You never know exactly what he’s going to do next.

“I learned so many life skills — simple things like not bringing my mum home to wash because I wasn’t home and had to fend for myself.

“I’m glad I’m not playing against him as a defender, he would turn me in circles.

“There will not be a defense in this league that would look forward to playing the two of us up front.

“It makes my work with him easier because the opponents don’t know who to focus on the most.”

Morris believes he can deliver decent numbers this season, but his main goal is to surpass teammate Harry Cornick.

Close pal Cornick scored a bizarre winner against Reading last season, where he sneaked up behind unsuspecting goalkeeper Orjan Nyland to steal the ball from him before bowling the ball home.

Morris laughed: “Harry hasn’t stopped talking about it. I just have to make sure I score more goals this season.

“But I didn’t set myself any goals. Your priority is to score goals as an attacking unit.”

Luton had a fantastic season before losing 1-0 to Huddersfield in the play-off semi-final – and Morris insists the Hatters can aim for another top-six finish again.

He said: “I’ve seen Luton a lot over the last season as Harry is one of my best friends.

“This team reflects the personality of the gaffer. It’s a relentless, hard-working team that shows courage and never gives up, never says die and leaves everything on the pitch. I love that.

“This team has 100 percent quality. There is no reason why we should not be successful.”
