If you’re feeling down, it’s important to know that every couple is different, one expert explains.

Fertility specialist and medical advisor for Twoplus’ fertilityDr Michael Eisenberg said the problems are often thought of as women’s health problems.

“Male factors such as poor sperm count and motility also affect a couple’s ability to conceive,” he said.

Eisenberg explains that the average man now carries about half as much sperm as he did 40 years ago, and most sperm don’t naturally make their way deep into a woman’s reproductive tract.

Other issues include the number of eggs a woman can have, and which decrease as a woman ages, as well as their quality, Dr.

Men over the age of 40 are also likely to have difficulty conceiving, as the quality of the penis again declines with age.

Conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hormonal problems, and early menopause are all conditions that oppose conception.

If you’ve been trying for more than six months and still haven’t gotten pregnant, it might be time to see a fertility specialist.

But before that, Dr. Eisenberg says you might want to look at how to maximize your chances of conceiving naturally at home.

Diet

Dr. Eisenberg says avoiding fast food is a good idea if you’re trying for a baby.

He highlights a study published by the Brazilian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology Associations showing that trans fat intake is associated with lower fertility.

Other studies show that a diet rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, protein from vegetables, whole grains, low-glycemic carbohydrates, dairy foods, and iron is associated with fertility higher.

He added: “Men should also follow a healthy diet as certain nutrients are essential for sperm health, such as omega-3, vitamin E, vitamin C, β-carotene, selenium, zinc, vitamin D and folate.

Have sex often

If you’ve been trying to get pregnant for a while, it may seem like all you do is have sex.

But Dr. Eisenberg says regular sex – means better chances of conceiving.

He highlights a study published in 2017 in the journal Fertil Steril that revealed that couples who have sex every other day have a higher chance of conceiving than couples who have sex only once a week.

“Avoid making sexual activity an obligation and try to make it enjoyable rather than a chore,” says Dr. Eisenberg.

He says the timing of when you have sex is also another thing to consider.

“The peak of fertility can vary even in women with regular cycles. One way to predict ovulation is through vaginal discharge analysis.

“When the sun is smooth and clear, the chances of conception are highest,” says Dr. Eisenberg. Ovulation prediction kits or cycle tracking can also be helpful.

Censor your vices

If you’re pregnant, you should cut out alcohol, beer, and tobacco, so if you’re trying to conceive, Dr. Eisenberg says you should cut back on alcohol and caffeine and avoid tobacco altogether.

“Women who are trying to get pregnant should avoid drinking more than two drinks per day (10g of alcohol).

“High caffeine consumption (more than 5 cups of coffee per day) is also associated with reduced fertility.

“Ultimately, smokers are more likely to have fertility problems,” he said.

Use lubricants

While this may seem odd, experts recommend using mineral oil, canola oil, or a hydroxyethyl cellulose-based lubricant when needed.

This is because some water-based vaginal lubricants can reduce sperm motility due to their chemical composition, Dr. Eisenberg explains.

While these are the main ways you can help increase your chances of conceiving, Dr. Eisenberg says you also want to maximize the chances of the sperm reaching the egg.

“It is a common misconception that only a single sperm is needed to meet an egg for fertilization to occur,” he said.

“In fact, successful fertilization requires a lot of sperm to prepare the way for the last ‘survivor’.

“For that to happen, it takes a few million sperm cells to reach the uterus. However, most of the sperm cells left in the vaginal tract after sex cannot survive in the acidic environment of the uterus. vagina”.

He says you can use ‘sperm guidance’ to increase your chances of conceiving naturally by avoiding leakage of semen during sex.

Devices like the twoplus are said to help guide sperm to the correct location because the device simulates fertilization in the cervical cap, prevents sperm leakage after sex, and increases sperm count. reach the cervical mucus.
