Experts have put together tips on how to save when shopping for groceries

Experts from NerdWallet explained what to look for on certain grocery shelves.

The best thing to do is to look for yellow sticker items on the shelves, the experts said.

Although each grocery store has a different day and time when they run out of tagged items, it might be worth researching this information.

But the experts also warn: “It’s important not to be tempted to make unnecessary purchases by yellow discount stickers.”

Sometimes, when you discover items at reduced prices, you are tricked into thinking that the purchase will save you money.

However, this isn’t always the case and sometimes these items aren’t worth it – and might not even get used.

“Shoppers should still only buy the item if they had planned to buy it as part of their shop — not just because there’s money,” experts said.

The experts also gave tips when choosing a shopping trolley or basket.

They suggest avoiding both if your list is short, saying it can help reduce the temptation to pick up extra items.

One last grocery shopping tip to save money has to do with where you look on the shelves.

Experts advise avoiding eye-to-eye shopping.

“Supermarkets are reportedly placing premium items on an equal footing to encourage shoppers to choose them over cheaper alternatives,” experts said.

“That’s why many savvy Tiktokers suggest searching the shelves from top to bottom to find the cheaper items.”

Instead, scour the shelves for the best deals.

You can also look at the longer shelf life products instead of fresh ones to save money too.
