The video, titled “Come to Costco with me as a financially literate 30-something millennial,” garnered over 1.2 million views.

The first step is to make sure you aren’t distracted by all the shiny electronics that you see when you first enter the store.

The account recommends looking down so you’re not being swayed.

“The more I watch, the more money I’ll spend,” said the user.

Then he goes straight to the back of the store where the meat is kept.

“I’m going to avoid anything that says ‘organic’ on it because it’s just a marketing ploy trying to get you more money,” he said.

When purchasing paper towels, the user said that the only ones he buys are Kirkland Signature’s Costco brand toilet paper, aside from the toilet paper.

“I won’t get the name brand, they probably come from the same factory anyway.”

After purchasing meat, dairy, and non-perishable items, his haul totaled $60.69.

The most important part of his strategy is not to get distracted by your shipping goals.

“People are so used to overspending at retail stores that they are amazed when someone spends less than $100. That’s why I think the video went viral,” he told the Daily Dot.

“The entire retail experience is a mind game by companies trying to make customers feel good about spending more.”

He added that product labeling and placement are specifically designed to play in the customer’s mind.

“I don’t claim to be an organic food expert, but everything I know about the retail business tells me not to trust any of them,” he continued.

“The less you participate in any company’s mind games, the more money you will have. That’s the message I hope TikTok will get from my videos: Be skeptical of everything you see from a company.

“All they want is your money. You work hard for your money, don’t let any business take it away from you.”
