Illegal migrants will stay in resort hotel with pool – Left calls it ‘hell’

Either you have limits or you don’t. And currently this country has no real border on our south coast.

How can I say that with confidence?

In recent years, tens of thousands of illegal migrants have crossed the English Channel in boats. I come from the absolutely safe country of France.

Many of these migrants were met at sea by British border guards, then brought to this country and lodged in hotels in the south of England.

This is not a limit. It’s a ferry service for illegal migrants that costs UK taxpayers millions of pounds every year. It’s a drain on our resources.

And it is a drain on the goodwill of the British people, who are generous to those in need but whose goodwill is exploited.

The political left seems to agree. They seem to think that every young man who comes to this country from all over the world is both a needy asylum seeker and a great boost to our economy.

But wiser minds know this is a lie. And that this country needs a proper border on the south coast.

That’s why Home Secretary Priti Patel announced earlier this year her plan to take people trying to enter the UK illegally “offshore”. She also hopes to crush the illegal smuggler gangs that prey on human misery.

Currently, the illegals come to Britain and, thanks to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), are given all the rights that come with being in the country they have broken into.

The interior minister’s plan is to send these people to Rwanda, where individual cases can be considered.

This is not a revolutionary plan. Australians have done something very similar in recent years and immediately dried up their illegal immigration problem.

But Patel is now facing some of the same criticism first reaped by our Australian friends. The left accused her of every crime in the book. Racism included, of course.

They have no plan of their own to stop illegal migration.

But they always try to stop anything that would stop them.

The first flight of illegal migrants to Rwanda should take off next week.

But now a group of activist “charities” and unions have asked for an injunction to stop the flight.

They will, of course, argue that enforcing our borders violates the ECHR. And that actually helps address a very overdue point.

Many people in the UK would be surprised to learn that we are still governed by the ECHR.

Wasn’t the whole point of Brexit that we could govern ourselves? Last but not least, by being able to make our own laws and not allowing foreign laws to be imposed on us?

That’s what the Brits thought when we voted Leave.

The political left seems to agree. They seem to think that every young man who comes to this country from all over the world is both a needy asylum seeker and a great boost to our economy.

But six years later this country is still stuck in the ECHR and it’s not at all clear if we’re going to get out.

The ministers seem to have dismissed the issue or put it in the “too difficult” drawer.

But if the government doesn’t look at the ECHR and the case law of the European Court of Justice*, these questions will keep coming up.

ACTIVIST GROUP

Lawyers for human rights activists know that this still gives them a good tool to tie up the British government.

You know that even if Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Home Secretary want to do something, any activist group can have the upper hand as long as we are in the ECHR.

In fact, Interior Ministry insiders have now admitted that the chance the first flight to Rwanda will take off next week is now “slight”.

This flight is said to contain the first 130 illegal migrants to be taken to the Rwandan capital, Kigali.

You are supposed to arrive at a resort hotel with a swimming pool. All paid for by the British taxpayer once again.

The boundless left presents all of this as absolute hell. That’s why they’re trying to stop the first flight.

And they know that if they can prevent the first flight from taking off, they can probably stop other flights as well.

They know that an awful lot of planes have to take off just to remove the people who have been admitted so far.

And they know that if they can win this fight, they might win the whole round.

Personally, I hope that the interior minister wins and that this humane and reasonable response to the border crisis is allowed to work. But it should also serve as a reminder to Patel and the Prime Minister.

We need borders. But we must also make our own laws. One doesn’t work without the other.

Time to get those ECHR papers out of the “too sensitive” drawer – and get to work.

*The European Court of Human Rights is separate from the European Court of Justice, which presides over EU legislation and which we have left thanks to Brexit.

OH LOVE, POOR JOHNNY LOOKS A BIT EXPRESSED

JOHNNY DEPP was spotted in Birmingham this week being helped out of the Grand Hotel.

A security team assisted Depp to get to the car, claiming they were protecting him from the large crowds that follow him everywhere.

I’m not sure. The star held on to a coffee mug with great determination.

Maybe it was early morning and Depp just needed caffeine badly.

Or maybe it was the remains of the “mega pint of wine” we heard about at his recent trial.

A FUN IDEA ABOUT CULTURE

Bradford is set to become Britain’s City of Culture in 2025 – an accolade that may have come a little too soon.

It is true that the citizens there have developed a historical interest in culture.

In 1988, the city became world famous when local Muslims burned a copy of Salman Rushdie’s novel The Satanic Verses.

Images of this went around the world and contributed to Iran’s ayatollah imposing a death sentence on the British writer.

This week, local religious leaders showed that not much has changed in the past 34 years. They led protests against a new film called The Lady Of Heaven, which some Muslims have accused of “blasphemy.”

Large numbers of protesters demonstrated in Bradford, accusing Cineworld of hosting a “hate film” and demanding its removal.

Cineworld has since announced it has shelved the film following similar protests in Birmingham, Sheffield and other cities across the UK.

At this point, one has to ask, what exactly is Bradford a leader in? Best Book Burning? Fastest film bans?

Are these categories for the coveted City Of Culture title?

IT’S ALL FOR POT

There are plans to ban smoking in guest gardens.

As The Sun reported yesterday, an independent investigation led by Dr. Javed Khan make smoking impossible.

This also includes the annual increase in the legal minimum age for buying cigarettes. And make sure that outdoor dining areas are cigarette-free zones.

But one thing always amazes me about such anti-smoking campaigns.

Everyone pushes towards an open door. At the same time, however, attempts are being made to legalize and grow cannabis.

Politicians like Sadiq Khan compete to look cool by talking about legalizing marijuana.

So what’s the deal? Are people fined for smoking tobacco but patted on the back for smoking weed?

What strange contradictions our age throws up.

I FEEL disgusting

Train drivers are expected to go on strike later this month.

The Rail, Sea and Transport Workers Union has announced that 50,000 of its members will shut down the nation for three days.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch announced:

General Secretary Mick Lynch announced: “Our union will now launch a sustained campaign of industrial action that will paralyze the rail system.”

Could he sound even more proud of himself?

Maybe he should be.

After all, the transport union bosses always pull off a great coup.

They portray their members as victims of brutal Tory cuts. They act like no one has ever had it so bad.

In fact, train drivers in this country can earn almost twice the average disposable household income. With annual salaries of up to £60,000, drivers and their families also get travel benefits and more.

I hope people remember that when the country grinds to a halt later this month. As hard working people are forced to find a way into work.

And slowly resurgent tourism suffers another blow.

It would be good if Labor leader Keir Starmer could feel the public anger this is sparking. Maybe he could even put a sharp word on the unions?

But he doesn’t like annoying his base.

Or his union purser.

The train drivers might have decided to put their feet up.

But they’re still all over Starmer’s Labor Party.
