‘If that ain’t match-fixing…’ – Watch the most horrific penalty ever taken during the cup final as fans yell foul play

At the recent Ogun State FA Cup final in Nigeria, fans accused the players of match-fixing, which was the most horrific punishment ever.

Remo Stars met Ijebu United after a 0-0 draw and penalties.

A bizarre sequence during penalties subsequently went viral and fans cried over a foul play.

At the first suspect penalty, the goalkeeper stood completely still, seemingly uninterested in even trying to save.

But it was the ensuing effort that really got people talking in disbelief.

The next Remo player to emerge hit the ball the wrong way as hard as he could before raising his hands to his head.

If the penalty had been in regulation time, it would have gone wide for a throw-in.

Ijebu United won 3-0 on penalties and took home the trophy.

podcaster Ibukun Aluko was gutted by the turn of events.

He wrote on Twitter: “If this isn’t match fixing then I don’t know what is.

“Why is Nigerian football like this? Why do we never want to progress?”

“This is the Ogun State FA Cup final between Remo Stars and Ijebu United💔💔”

Aluko later learned the obvious reason for such a bizarre shootout.

He added: “I found out that the Remo-Stars players intentionally threw away their first 3 penalties and their goalkeeper also remained motionless when the opponents took theirs as a sign of protest for the unfair lead in the game.”

However, one fan who attended the game disagreed with the gesture, writing: “The lead was very fair, I was at the stadium today. The leadership was not biased at all.”

While another asked: “Then why did he put his hands on his head in a mock gesture of disappointment when he’s doing it on purpose?”
