Idaho student murder victim’s ex-boyfriend fights while “Half of America” suspects him of a murder

THE ex-boyfriend of one of the murdered University of Idaho students was devastated after losing “the love of his life,” his family revealed.
Jack DuCoeur, 22, went through the trauma of being named a person of interest for the stabbing death of his ex-girlfriend, who died along with three other students – his family said he is now afraid to return to campus.

DuCoeur’s aunt, Brooke Miller, said the young man was appalled to be investigated over the death of Kaylee Goncalves, with whom he was intimate for five years.
“Not only did he lose the love of his life, and what we all thought, and he probably thought too, was his future wife — you know, get married and have kids and all that,” Miller told the New York Post.
Additionally, Miller said, “Half America” believes he may be “responsible” for the brutal murders of Kaylee and her roommate Madison Mogen, both 21, along with Xana Kernodle and her boyfriend Ethan Chapin, both 20, on November 13.
Police were alerted to DuCoeur based on Kaylee’s phone records, which show she tried unsuccessfully to call him 10 times just hours before she was found dead in the off-campus home.

The two had a long-term relationship but split a few weeks before her death.
“Obviously he was sad, but they were still friends,” said Miller, who explained that they broke up because Goncalves was “planning to move away.”
Fortunately, Moscow officials later said they “investigated” and “deleted” the phone calls.
On November 23, they announced that DuCoeur was no longer a suspect, according to a statement on Facebook.
However, internet detectives continue to speculate about the crime, although no arrests have been made and a suspect has not been identified.
“These are just the most ridiculous conspiracies,” Miller said.
“We all know without a doubt there’s no way Jack would ever do that to anyone.”
Once DuCoeur came under fire, Kaylee’s family publicly announced their support for the heartbroken young man.
“You’re wasting your time with Jack,” Kaylee’s mom, Kristi, previously told The Daily Beast.
“And Jack is just as desperate as we are. Jack is our family.”
After such a challenging experience, DuCoeur is now struggling with the thought of returning from campus, his aunt explained, along with many others haunted by the lack of public information.
“It’s hard for him to think about going back to Moscow because his life there was very connected to Kaylees,” Miller said.
Police have yet to name a suspect, leaving victims’ families and the Moscow community searching for answers as the university continues its winter break.
Around 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. on November 13, the students were murdered while two surviving roommates, Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke, both 19, slept through the attack.
The two were on the first floor, while the victims were found on the second and third floors – but officials confirmed they were unrelated to the attacks.
CHILLING NOTES
In the haunting case, more chilling information comes to light when a former tenant of the House of Secrets recently spoke of “footsteps being heard on ‘every floor'”.
While the public remains fairly in the dark about the attacks, Cole Alteneder, who used to live in the Moscow home, told Fox News Digital about the “very creaky old house.”
Cole graduated in 2022 and lived in the home during his junior year. He had a second floor bedroom above one of the first floor bedrooms.
“The person who lived downstairs always said he could hear me walking around,” said Cole.
“I had a desk and a wheelchair and he could hear it rolling around.”
Cole said he and his roommates could also hear all the voices in the house.
The house was poorly insulated and the “ventilation system was really weird so you could hear everyone in the whole house talking,” he said.
He said everyone has learned to block out the sounds and is used to it.
Despite Cole’s experience, another 2019 ex-tenant – who lived on the first floor – previously told the outlet that he typically “didn’t hear anything” from the second and third floors unless his roommate turned the TV on loud .
Ryan Augusta, 43, said: “I wouldn’t have heard it [activity] from underneath.”
Cole said if Ryan had the bedroom on the first floor which was directly below the living room and the living room wasn’t being used then that would make sense.
It comes as the taxi driver who drove two of the students home before they were killed has broken his silence on the tragedy.
Online detectives have also criticized the lack of rewards offered to people who may have information that could lead to the killer.
However, six weeks after the chilling crime, police are still asking the public for tips and clues about the murders.

Miller has started a GiveSendGo that raises money so “Kaylee’s family will be able to hire a private investigator, get expert legal advice, etc,” she told the Post.
“The last thing this family wants is for it to become a cold case.”
