In another cinematic universe, Brad Pitt almost donned Neo’s iconic black jacket in “The Matrix” in 1999. While speaking at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in January 2020 ( through the NME), he’s been pondering his choice to transmit “The Matrix”. The Oscar winner had a comedic but mature point of view, saying, “I’ve moved on to ‘The Matrix’.” I take the red pill. […] I come from a place, maybe that’s my upbringing, if I don’t get it, it’s not mine. I really believe [the role] never mine. It’s not mine. It belongs to someone else, and they go and make it. I really believe in that. “
Of course, Pitt is not alone in taking on the now famous sci-fi role. Notably, Will Smith turned down this role instead of coming to the big-budget “Wild West” movie. During an appearance on HBO’s “The Shop: Uninterrupt” (via CheatSheet), Smith said, “Sometimes you say ‘no’ when you should have said ‘yes.'” He went on to express that he thought he wouldn’t do a good job, bluntly saying, ” I ruined it.”
The role of Neo, all known by now, goes to Keanu Reeves, who has successfully completed his mission. Still, it’s interesting to think how things could be different in some weird coded mirror world.
