Chili’s discontinued its famous “Original Chicken Crispers” late last year, prompting a wave of grief from its fans on social media.

The store is now promoting its new alternative, simply called Chicken Crispers.

“The favorite of a chili! Our famous crispers are hand baked and crunchy,” says the item description on the website.

They come in two flavors and styles: Crispy and Honey Chipotle.

In an interview with Today, Chili’s explained its decision to remove the dish from the menu despite it being popular with many customers.

“This menu change is part of our simplification and growth initiatives to reduce complexity for team members at our heart of the establishment and ultimately provide a better experience for our guests,” said a spokesperson.

“Right now, our kitchen team is focused on perfecting our high-quality, hand-baked Crispy Chicken Crispers, which make up the majority of our chicken orders – and are highly sought after.”

“We encourage our guests to come out and try them. They are bigger than before and even juicier. And guests can choose from one of our flavorful sauces – honey mustard, BBQ or homemade ranch.”

CHILIS CUSTOMER RESPONSE

Despite Chili’s assurances that the new chicken crispers are just as tasty, fans are still missing their old crispers.

“It’s the only reason I eat at Chilis… RIP OG Crispers and my travels there,” wrote one fan.

“Wait is this a sick prank or what?” wrote another.

While the crowd wanting the OG crispers is louder, there are Chili customers who are happy with the new options.

“Was about to have a heart attack,” one user wrote after announcing the OG Crispers’ discontinuation.

“I love the honey chipotle crispers.”
