In a TikTok video, he explained that Walmart has cameras stationed above the self-service checkouts.

He revealed that if something went wrong, a buyer’s face would appear on a big screen.

RéJean said the cameras could detect the slightest hand movement as he warned shoppers.

He added, “And then if you try to steal something your video will play like you didn’t scan it.”

RéJean urged customers not to try to steal goods for the self-checkout.

Meanwhile, another Walmart employee, known only as Merica, has claimed she knows shoppers are trying to steal items if they look over at her.

She told viewers in a TikTok clip that her so-called tactics were “obvious.”

Some shoppers joked that they wouldn’t make eye contact with the worker when scanning their groceries.

But others claimed they were looking at an employee to prove they weren’t stealing items.

One shopper said he is looking around the store to get the attention of an associate who may be nearby.

They added, “I look back because I mess up so much and it’s always ‘wait for help’.”

A clerk, known as James, said he felt like a predator monitoring the self-checkout at the Washington state store where he works.

He told The Guardian that he needs to monitor an uninterrupted stream of up to four customers at a time.

Theft remains a problem for large retailers like Walmart.

Last month, the retailer’s CEO, Doug McMillon, admitted thefts have reached an all-time high.

He told CNBC, “If this is not corrected over time, prices will be higher and/or stores will close.”

Shocking statistics from the 2022 National Retail Security Survey reveal nearly $100 billion was lost to shrinkage.

The retailer has resorted to placing items behind Plexiglas or storing items in cupboards as part of its anti-theft strategy.

The move was blasted by customers, with some claiming it made it “impossible” to shop.
