‘I will return to Inter’

ROMELU LUKAKU has sensationally revealed that he wants to leave Chelsea to join Inter Milan.

The striker, 28, angered the Italian side’s fans last summer when he left them to return to Stamford Bridge for £97.5m.

Inter supporters destroy a mural of Lukaku when he left in August, despite his goals helping them to win the Serie A title, and also put up a banner accusing the Belgian of ‘breaking their ball’.

On the internet appeared pictures of murals with black paint covering the image of Lukaku in Inter’s shirt pointing to the sky.

His number 9 and the name on his shirt were barely visible after vandals destroyed the piece.

And they also put up a banner in Italian that roughly translates as: “You broke our ball.”

Inter’s Curva Nord extremists are believed to be responsible for the vandalism.

And a message on their Facebook page denounces Lukaku as a ‘money-hungry’.

But he has now tried to amend the supporters he has abandoned by declaring his desire to return to Inter after admitting how unhappy he is at the Blues.

Lukaku said Sky Sport Italy: “I think everything that happened last summer shouldn’t have happened like this… the way I left Inter, the way I left the club, the way I communicated with the Inter fans – this made me uncomfortable because it’s not the right time.

“Now is the right time to share my feelings. I always say I have Inter in my heart: I know I will BACK for Inter, I really hope so.

“I love Italy, this is the right time to talk and let people know what really happened.

“I really hope from the bottom of my heart that I will return to Inter not at the end of my career, but when I am still at the highest level to win more together.”

“I want to apologize to the Inter fans, the timing of my words was wrong: what you have done for me will last forever.”

Lukaku also insists the move to Chelsea was a mistake as well as the fact that he wants to return to Inter while still in his prime.

Despite his explosive start at Stamford Bridge, the striker has admitted he is ‘not satisfied with the situation at Chelsea’ as he blasted Thomas Tuchel’s tactics in an explosive interview.

Lukaku has scored five goals in eight Premier League appearances for the Blues this term.

That included a strike against Brighton last night as his side were held to a 1-1 draw to lose their place in the title race with Man City.

But Lukaku’s influence has been limited by injury and the coronavirus in recent months.

And Chelsea manager Tuchel has regularly dropped him from the starting line-up even when he is fit on a number of occasions.

“Physically, I’m fine,” Lukaku said. But I am NOT satisfied with the situation at Chelsea.

“Tuchel chose to play with a different system – I’m not giving up, I’m going pro.

“I’m not happy with the situation but I’m professional – and I can’t give up now.”
