I went to dinner and was furious at a £20 hidden charge secretly added to my bill – it was very cheeky

AN ANGRY diner has blasted a restaurant after its staff secretly added £20 to their bill for a bizarre dessert charge.
TikToker @vivala_blondiiie had enjoyed a birthday dinner with friends but was taken aback when it came time to pay.

The group of foodies snagged a surcharge for slicing cakes, netting them £20.
Gigi, her real name, took to social media to express her grievances with the receipt as proof.
She said: “When the waiter asks if we want the cake we brought cut because he thinks she’s doing something nice for us … but it was £20.
“I didn’t know that was a thing.”
Gigi’s friends had surprised her with the birthday cake and the group planned to eat it after dinner.
She said: “We weren’t planning on eating it at the restaurant.
“But the waiters insisted on taking the cake to the kitchen and cutting it, which wasn’t our plan.”
Gigi, who worked as a waitress for six years, said the charges came as a huge shock as she had never encountered “cakeage” in her career.
She said: “It’s new to me, I honestly didn’t know.
“I was a server and we never billed clients or we didn’t have a fee.
“I understand the charge, but it was surprising.”
The US woman claimed the group would have happily paid the fee if the restaurant had made it clear in advance.
She said: “I don’t mind that I was charged, I was just shocked because it was a surprise.
“We never asked them to serve me the cake I brought… just like they never told me it was a charge.
“It would have just been nice to know.”
The social media video has more than 800,000 views.
However, the editing controversy divided public opinion.
“I should have gotten the manager because the server should have told you to pay for it,” said one TikTok user.
“Absolutely not a thing because then they bring plates and forks that they then have to wash… but you were wrong not being told about a fee,” said one.
“Not unlike a corking fee — it’s a restaurant policy to help them pay their bills when people bring in food,” said another.
“I’ve never seen this before, I worked in an Italian restaurant for a year and we cut cakes and provided plates just to be nice,” said a third.

Another guest was furious after discovering a hidden charge of £28 secretly added to his restaurant bill.
A foodie was charged more for requesting scrambled eggs for her eggs.
