I was suddenly slapped with a citation for parking on my own driveway under little known rule – it gets even odder

In 2020, residents in Kendall, Florida found out they could get a traffic ticket even on their own property.
“I thought, ‘Why am I getting a ticket for parking in the driveway at home?'” resident Steven Heckert told local Fox affiliate WSVN-TV.
During the height of the pandemic, locals felt the city was creating new stress for neighborhood families.
“The reason that worries us is that most of us have been furloughed or resigned,” Mary Difede said after she was issued the ticket.

“We get no warning at all. We’ll just get a citation.”
Neighbors received criticism because their cars were blocking the sidewalk.
During Covid restrictions, more family members, including college-aged children, stayed home, resulting in more cars sitting in driveways.
“In just one week, there were about four houses hit with $30 tickets, and some of them were just a little bit on the sidewalk,” said neighbor Perla Terzian.
“Where should they go? Where should they park? Not every house is built for a huge dump.”
As residents had to quarantine at home, many of them discovered that tickets were not issued during the day.
“My home received two tickets. These tickets are issued at 9:54 p.m., which is already a strange hour to walk in a neighborhood,” Difede said.
“I don’t know who orders this at night or if someone calls,” Terzian said.
WSVN called Miami Dade Police and asked why neighbors were getting tickets even though they were supposed to be home under coronavirus regulations.
They also asked why the tickets were being distributed at night.
Police told the news station that they did not patrol the neighborhood for violations at night.
Instead, they received an anonymous tip from someone who lived in the neighborhood.
