HORRIFIED neighbors of Jeffrey Dahmer say the killer’s fascination with the dead and the rotting began horrifyingly at an early age.L
Locals who shared a neighborhood with the boy-turned-caring-killer told how cats were found impaled on trees and dogs’ heads on spikes just meters from his home.
The family moved to Ohio from Wisconsin when Dahmer was a child — and soon after, pets began to disappear from their gardens.
According to the children who lived on his street, he developed an “intense interest” in dead animals from an early age – starting with insects and then “road kill.”
Never in their wildest dreams could they have imagined that sick possession would spread to humans.
Dahmer chopped up animals in a disconcerting manner and kept them in a series of jars in what he called a “shack” at the back of his family’s home.
He and his buddies walked the country lanes of Bath Township in search of chipmunks, pigs and other creatures that had been run over.
A neighbor told Arizona Republic in 1991, “He would collect these animals, dismember them, separate them by body part and put them in jars.
“The cabin had tons and tons of jars of animals and animal parts. And he seemed fascinated by decomposition.”
During Dahmer’s time on the block, there were numerous reports of cats and dogs going missing.
Around the time Dahmer was 15, his neighbor Jim Klippel made a grisly discovery just 300 yards from his home.
He told how he and his girlfriend found a dog’s head impaled on a stick, its carcass – skinned and gutted – nailed to a tree.
Klippel told the newspaper: “About 100 meters away there had been a large fire and 13 small fires around it.
“It looked so much like a cult worship that it scared the shit out of us.”
Eric Tyson, who grew up opposite Dahmer, revealed similar horrors.
He said the sicko had an animal cemetery with graves and small crosses next to his house.
Tyson added: “Some neighbors recalled seeing animals like frogs and cats impaled or attached to trees.”
Dahmer’s own family was aware of his unusual passion, and his father, Lionel, told how he was “strangely excited” by the sound of animal bones falling into a bucket as he helped clean up under their house.
At just ten years old, he asked his father over dinner what would happen if chicken bones were dipped in bleach.
However, his bizarre obsession with animals didn’t stop after his teenage years.
In his early 20s, he moved to Milwaukee to live with his paternal grandmother.
He stayed there for several years until one day she complained to her son about a bad smell coming from the garage.
Dahmer admitted, “I just had too much time and just wanted to see what chemicals would degrade the chicken I bought.”
His father replied, “God, Jeff, that’s weird. That’s weird.”
Dahmer used his twisted methods on his victims, dismembering them and even pouring acid into their brains after drilling holes in their skulls.
He drugged, raped, murdered, dismembered and ate 17 men and boys from 1978 to 1991.
Dahmer cut up most of his victims and stored body parts in his freezer as diseased trophies, in grim reflection of what he did with animals, even eating chunks of meat to fulfill his depraved urges.
He lured his victims – almost all from minority ethnic or LGBT communities – back to his home, often offering to pay them for nude photos in return.
Once there, he would drug their drinks before carrying out his evil deeds.
He later told the court that once drugged, he would drill a tiny hole in some of his victims’ skulls, “just enough to open a passageway to the brain.”
Dahmer said he would then inject them with hydrochloric acid to induce a “zombie-like state.”
