Betty White is celebrating her 100th birthday on January 17th by appearing on the cover of People.
In the cover story, to be released the week of January 10, the prolific actor reveals her secret to living a long and fulfilling life.
“I try to avoid anything green,” she jokes. “I guess it’s working.”
White is not a fan of Hollywood’s healthy food trends. Instead, “Golden Girls” star loves eating hot dogs and drinking vodka with a dash of grapefruit.
She also loves to eat peanut butter sandwiches, bologna sandwiches, and iceberg lettuce on white bread for lunch. According to her executive personal assistant of nearly a decade, Kiersten Mikelas, White’s mother used to make snacks for her as a child.
In a slightly more sobering note, White offers some advice for living a joyful life: “Taste every moment.”
She certainly sticks to this motto, telling everyone she’s “lucky to be in such good health and feeling so good at this age”.
Currently, White spends her time in Los Angeles completing crossword puzzles, playing card games and watching the animal documentary, “Jeopardy!” and golf tournaments.
She also took the time to honor her late husband Allen Ludden everyday.
“She keeps a picture of him on her bedside table and kisses him every morning,” Mikelas shared. “At night, when she opened the shutters, she blew a kiss to the sky with him. He was always on her mind.”
White and Ludden, her third husband, married in 1963. The two remained married until 1981 when Ludden died of stomach cancer at the age of 63.
Even though White hasn’t been on screen for a few years, she’s sure to have her comedic and momentous charm.
Mikelas told People that she recently spoke with White about the possibility of reuniting with her ex-boyfriend.
“Betty said, “If he doesn’t want to be exclusive, screw him,” her assistant laughs. “Then she stopped, looked at me and said, ‘But don’t screw him.’ It’s Betty, bubbly, naughty and sweet, all at the same time. ”
People also interviewed a few of White’s famous friends in honor of her centenary birthday.
Ryan Reynolds, who co-starred with White in “The Proposal,” also praised her timeless comedy skills. “The Betty axes are like I’ve never seen before, making it look seamless,” he said. “The rest of us just kept quiet and prayed that we weren’t cut off from the scene.”
Reynolds later joked that White represents “a typical Capricorn” because she spends her days sleeping and her nights “drunk and snacking with men”.
“The Proposal” actress Sandra Bullock praised White for “a lovely, decent, upbeat, inclusive and fun person.”
She added, “With humor, kindness, and a glass of vodka on the rock, toast to the fact that she’s a villain who left us all in the dust.”
Carol Burnett spoke of White’s beloved fame in Hollywood and recalled working together on “The Carol Burnett Show”.
“Betty had this reputation before she was on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ as cute-sweets, and then she was on Johnny Carson’s show and was completely killed,” Burnett explained. “She’s funny and very funny. She’s coming to my show, and if there’s a bit of adventurous humor in one of our sketches, she’s going to roll with it.” and make it funnier and add a little wink to show she’s thinking about something sexy. She’s not a stand-up person. She’s not a joker. is how she can twist a line to make it laugh.”
For his birthday next month, White plans to celebrate with a small gathering and a few animals. “I would surround myself with as many animals as possible,” she said.
Fans can also join the celebration by attending a screening of the one-day only stage event “Betty White: 100 years young,“Distributed by Fathom Events.
The film will be screened at 900 cinemas nationwide on her birthday, January 17, Diversity reported. “100 Years Young” will provide a behind-the-scenes look at White’s life as well as a glimpse into her relationship with staff and her work as an animal rights activist.
The film also brought viewers an invitation to White’s birthday party along with guests such as Reynolds, Burnett, Tina Fey, Lin Manuel-Miranda, Morgan Freeman and White’s longtime lover Robert Redford.
