TIP at restaurants is a common, expected practice to show employees that you appreciate their service.
People often argue about what percentage is acceptable — should you leave 15% or 20%? Is 18% a golden number?
A man has sparked a huge debate online thanks to his approach to restaurant bills.
In a TikTok Posted by @Kaittwest, a man is seen leaving a $25 Amazon gift card in lieu of a tip.
TikToker revealed that the total bill was $95.
Even though the client paid the full amount, when it came time to add the bonus, he came up with this unexpected alternative.
“He asked if he could tip with an Amazon gift card,” said TikToker as she videoed her handing it over.
She captioned the clip: “The holidays have left us #broke.”
She hilariously matched the video to the “Spongebob Sad Song Steel Lick” sound.
This exchange has turned the Internet into a frenzy.
While some people believe that the exchange is perfectly acceptable, even acceptable, others think it is completely wrong:
“What a generous Fella! You can see his good intentions. Some people don’t even leave a dime. This kid gives everything he has. God bless brother”, one person commented.
“That’s more than 20% of the tip. It’s really generous,” said another.
A third person had a sizzling approach: “I’ll accept because we don’t have to pay taxes on that. Haha. ”
However, there are also many viewers on the other side of the debate:
One commented: “As a waiter, no, I need the bills, not Amazon.
“People actually go out to eat when they have no money,” added a second.
