“Picture it like this: 6:38 at work. I received a message. I was added to a group chat with two phone numbers that I don’t know. And numbers texting and saying, “Hey, how’s Bill?” My boyfriend,” she began.

Wondering who this person might be, Sydney added the anonymous number to her contact list, used Snapchat’s “Add Contact” feature, and discovered that the person’s name was Samantha.

So she did what any girlfriend involved would do: she dialed the number.

“Voicemail verifies that the name of the person who texted me, asking about my boyfriend, is Samantha.

“Breathe deeply because I am breathing fast,” Sydney continued.

Imagining that she was about to break up with her boyfriend because of his apparent deception, she quit her job and devised a plan.

“I went home, he was still at the gym. I’m planning for myself how I’m going to do it.

“Because I was like, if I’m being cheated on, I’m going to go out gracefully and prove that I’m the greatest thing that’s ever happened to this man.”

She decided she would clean the kitchen when he walked through the front door. She’ll come back to him and just ask, “How’s Samantha?”

“What he would probably lie about, that is my assumption.

“Then I’ll go, ‘Let’s pack a bag and get out of my house.’ And just like that, I’m really not going to continue the conversation after that. “

When her boyfriend left the house, she said, “I’m going to inevitably have a mental breakdown after my two-and-a-half year relationship seems to have just ended.”

As she considered the plan, she became tense, shaky, and nauseous.

“And suddenly I got a text message in this group chat,” she said.

“And it turned out to be one of my prospective clients, whom I met last weekend, with whom we joked about the situation.

Sydney feels relieved. Either way, her boyfriend didn’t do anything wrong.
