A FIRST TIME lottery player bought a scratch card and won a huge prize despite odds of three million to one.
An 18-year-old boy from Maryland won $50,000 with a $100,000 Show Me ticket bought by his father.
The ticket was purchased from a store in Laurel and the youngster was stunned when he won the prize.
The winner, who has not been identified, told the Maryland Lottery: “I was confused and surprised at the same time. I really didn’t know I was a winner.”
There are over 776,000 winning scratch cards in circulation and the odds of winning are 1 in 3.77.
The lottery player defied a quota of three million to one.
The boy’s father has not yet won a lottery prize.
The teenager plans to put his winnings into a new car.
A string of big lottery wins have made headlines in recent weeks.
Solomon Garens, 45, won a huge $1 million prize after buying a ticket while stopping at a RaceTrac gas station in Florida.
He told iHeart that he stopped for a water and toilet break as he was exhausted from a long day on the road.
He decided to buy a Gold Rush Limited scratch card.
He told the Florida Lottery, “When I saw the million-dollar prize, I couldn’t believe it.”
Solomon, who had traveled from Ohio, opted to receive his winnings as a one-time payment and drove four hours to Florida Lottery headquarters to collect his winnings.
The Gold Rush Limited Scratch-Off is a $20 game that was launched in September 2021.
The odds of winning are 1 in 2.65. There are 32 grand prizes of $5 million and 100 prizes of $1 million.
The tickets are filled with thousands of prizes ranging from $1,000 to $100,000.
Earlier this month, Delaware’s Duane Ketterman won $30,785 when he bought a Racetrax ticket in Baltimore, Maryland.
It was his second win in a few weeks.
Robert Hamilton from Indianapolis, Indiana won $1 million twice in just three months.
He took home his first prize in April after winning the $120 million Hoosier Lottery scratch card Cash Spectacular.
Lottery officials said the odds of Hamilton winning the $1 million grand prize are about one in two million, reports CBS.
Months later, Hamilton defied the odds again and scooped another $1 million prize.
