I married MY CAT to prevent landlords from forcing me to get rid of her

A mother married her cat – to prevent landlords from forcing her to give up the pet.

Deborah Hodge, 49, tied the knot with India in a park ceremony presided over by a legally ordained pal.

The single mum was dressed in a tuxedo, with India in gold lamé meowing through the vows.

Deborah claimed landlords had forced her to house two huskies and a cat over the years – and she was desperate to avoid a repeat.

She said: “I cannot be without India. She really is a sensation, she is so kind and amazing. It is basically the most important thing in my life after my children.”

Deborah lost her coaching job last month and fears she could be evicted from her home in Sidcup, south east London.

And she wants future landlords to know that she and India will not be separated.

Deborah, who got married legally at a local park last week, left saying: “I had a group of friends there.

“They think I’ve gone insane, but we all had a great day.

“My kids weren’t there, they just think Mom lost track!”

The mother-of-two has lived in India since 2017, but the cat lost a leg when hit by a car in 2020.

She said: “I don’t believe in organized religion. However, I have faith. India always came back even after losing a leg. I am her universe and that’s why I married her.”
