Shortly after realizing what had happened, he returned to the crowded area, where he was approached by two police officers.

They said they were approached by an unnamed woman who also commuted to work at the same time as Martinez. NBC New York reports.

The police then verified his identity and returned the wallet, which still contained the money and other items.

Speaking in Spanish, Martinez said he was grateful to the police officers and the woman who returned it, saying that their kindness proved there were still honest people in the world.

Last month hackers who carried out the largest cryptocurrency heist in history “For Fun” returned the stolen $610 million to its rightful owner.

Even more surprising, the collapsed company offered them money as a reward for their “good deed.”
