I have four names shortlisted for my son, I discovered them ALL penis nicknames, I could go on anyway

When it comes to baby names, some parents want something original while others prefer to keep things traditional.

Whatever name you decide to choose, there’s going to be someone who doesn’t like it or a way to find something silly about it.

Taking to Mumsnet, an unnamed mother shared the dilemma of naming her expected son.

The mother from the UK explained that she wanted to choose a traditional name and had reduced the list to four; John, Peter, Thomas and William.

She added that all the names are already in her family and she wants to use a combination of at least two of them for her son when he is born.

However, after naming a friend, they pointed out that each of these names is a nickname for a penis.

The mother was shocked and added: “I’ve only heard of ‘Willy’ – but that doesn’t seem to be used much as a nickname for William anymore, so didn’t know this could be the problem – all both seem “normal” names to me!”

Though grateful that she now knows what those names mean before naming her son, she wonders if the boy is really being teased for it.

She asks users if they would associate them as penis nicknames if her baby is called William John Peter or William Thomas John, for example.

Many users told their mother ‘John Thomas’ and ‘Willy’ (short for William), as well-known nicknames, and some from the United States suggested that the name ‘Peter’ was also a popular nickname.

However, after reading the comments, the mother said she is still considering using names, especially William.

The mother wrote: “Still debating William – I really love its timeless feel as a first name so it’s at the top of my list, but if most William is still teased with” Willy”, it might not be worth the risk.

One user reassured the mother: “William is as if a common name I couldn’t imagine ‘haha willy’ could cause so many problems. “

“I have William and never made this connection. Maybe John Thomas, but that’s alma mater. I wouldn’t worry about that. These are good, classic names.” Wrote someone else.
