Flames erupted from the fuel cap of her car parked in her driveway in Hinckley and Bosworth, Leicestershire.

The mother, who did not want to be named, said: “I was really shaken and so were the kids. Either way, my son suffers from anxiety.

“I couldn’t believe it and I really don’t know why anyone would do this.”

She was getting ready for bed just before midnight on Wednesday when she heard a strange noise and looked out the window to see the fire.

She told Leicestershire Live: “I woke up my kids and walked the dogs and out the back door.

“My neighbors tried to wave at us to get out.”

The mother is temporarily staying at her partner’s home with her 11-year-old twin son and daughter.

She is appealing to anyone who knows anything or has information that could help find who is responsible.

Police confirmed the incident was being treated as an arson attack.

A spokesman for Leicestershire Police said: “The fire, which is believed to have been started intentionally, has been extinguished.”

Inquiries regarding the incident are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police citing reference 22*138448.
