She told ABC affiliate WSB she was “beyond angry” after being hit with the complaint in Kennesaw, Georgia, in 2015.

Oviedo said, “I don’t understand how the government can tell me whose car I can park in my own driveway.”

The homeowner received a visit from local officials when they responded to an anonymous complaint.

Local officials reportedly told Oviedo that she would need to obtain a permit to park four cars on the driveway.

Her ruling confused her and she said, “I have to pay to park on a property I already pay taxes on.”

In 2016, officials announced that Cobb County residents would be able to park four cars on their driveways instead of three if they live in “lower residential density” areas, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Officials on the Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted four to one in favor of the change.

Oviedo wasn’t the only driver threatened with fines for parking in the driveway.

In 2019, a police officer in Clearwater, Florida, faced a fine if she didn’t stop parking her patrol car in the driveway.

Officials with the Holiday Isles Management Homeowners Association claimed she violated the rules because her car was issued by a government agency.

A year later, the law was changed after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill allowing police officers to park their police cars in their driveways.

Lawmakers welcomed the introduction of the new law. Some politicians said it would “make neighborhoods safer.”

Sheriffs across the state also said having an officer vehicle on the trip can help reduce crime.
