I got drunk at a party and woke up buried in a coffin during a human sacrifice ritual

A petrified party-goer who passed out while drunk has told how he woke up buried in a coffin as revelers offered him up as a human sacrifice.

Victor Hugo Mica Alvarez, 30, broke out of the coffin in Achacachi, Bolivia, about 50 miles from where he passed out during a drinking session.

He had been drinking at the start of the Mother Earth Festival in El Alto the night before and was worse exhausted by the end.

The 30-year-old had joined crowds celebrating nature and the natural world while praising Pachamama, the goddess of the earth and fertility.

Festival-goers bring offerings to the planet known as “Sullu,” and it seems Victor was chosen as one of this year’s entries.

He believes the locals buried him alive on August 6 as a gift to the goddess, and explains that he only awoke from his slumber when he needed a pee.

The traumatized guy told local media: “Last night was pre-boarding [of the festival], we went dancing. And after that I don’t remember.

“The only thing I remember is thinking I was in my bed, I wanted to get up to urinate and I couldn’t move.

“When I was pushing the coffin I was able to break a glass that was in it and that’s how I got out.

“I barely broke the glass, and dirt began to seep in through the glass. They wanted to use me as Sullu.”

As mud and concrete began to pile up on him, a confused Victor explained that he’d managed to scrape himself out of the pit.

But after informing police of his ordeal, the partygoer claims police refused to believe him because he was “too drunk”.

He raged: “We went dancing… and I don’t remember anymore.

“I broke the glass, my whole hand was hurt, I hardly went out but I went to the police and they told me I was drunk.

“‘You will come healthy,’ they told me.”

Indigenous Bolivians believe that Pachamama “opens her mouth” for offerings in August.

Many attendees present the goddess with a wide variety of gifts, including live animals, sheep’s fetuses, cacao leaves, and colorful candies.

But some speculate that ancient human sacrifices and offerings are still performed in secret.

Offerings continue throughout the year alongside folk dances and ritual ceremonies.
