I failed my driving test disastrously and even broke the speed limit – but used a simple hack to pass next time

A WOMAN who “disastrously failed” her driving test finally passed it with a clever hack.
Emma Cannon, 22, from Wiltshire, broke down in tears after breaking the speed limit on her first attempt in her hometown of Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The singer, also known as Elkie, flunked her exam with three majors and thought she’d “never pass” — until she carved out the path to success.
Elkie went online to research the location in the UK with the highest success rate, which turned out to be Dorchester, Dorset, which is 65 miles from her hometown.
The determined learner driver booked her test in Dorchester via the test cancellation app and made the 1 hour and 45 minute journey with her mum to stay over the night before.
She said: “I started driving in April 2022 and had my first test booked for late October in my area of Chippenham.
“It was a disaster, it was so bad.
“I felt uncomfortable and nervous, I made the stupidest mistakes.
“I forgot to turn on my light and when she asked me to open the hood I tried to put the stick in the wrong place.”
According to Elkie, it got progressively worse when she was given parallel parking as a maneuver.
She said: “I had my maneuver within five minutes and knew I had failed.
“I parked on the sidewalk.
“I asked if I could fit in and she said no.”
According to Elkie, she broke down in tears but had to continue taking the test, adding, “We rode along and the test teacher didn’t say anything.
“She took me to an intersection that led onto a dual carriageway.
“She thought I wasn’t looking enough, so she hit the brakes and took the wheel.
“We drove on, but all I really wanted to do was go back to the test center.”
Elkie also raced in a 30-mile range during her test and failed with three majors.
She said: “She told me I had failed but had no emotion and didn’t seem to care.”
After her horrific experience, she vowed she would not return to the testing center in Chippenham.
She set out to find the area in the UK with the highest success rate and after a quick Google search she found it to be Dorchester, Dorset – a two hour drive away.
Elkie took her second test in February and said: “It was such a different experience, the people were so nice, they put me at ease.
“I didn’t know the area, it was very rural.
“The test leader was very nice and I felt comfortable.”
According to the new driver, she only received two minors — one because she didn’t know where the brake fluid was going and one because she didn’t look long enough when turning onto a dual carriageway.
She suggested being in an unfamiliar place actually helped her pass.
Elkie said: “I think in a new area you have to read the signs and the road more.
“I wasn’t in my head so much that I had to pay attention.”
For her maneuver, Elkie was asked to park forward into a bay.
“That was the best parking I’ve ever done,” she said.
Elkie was overjoyed when the test teacher informed her that she passed.
She said: “I was just so happy, it’s amazing that I can drive now.
“I live in the middle of nowhere so I went crazy – where I live there are three buses a day.
“I’ve been so scared for so long, but I think the instructor you get really makes a difference.
“A lot of it in your head, you’re starting to think about it.

“During my first test, I could barely speak and had tears in my eyes.
“If that were a real scenario, you wouldn’t be driving any further.”
