The Red Devils played a Europa League epic at the Nou Camp on Thursday as both sides scored twice.

Rashford, starting as number 9 after a tactical change, scored one goal and set up the other in another top performance.

His goal came moments after Barcelona took an early lead through Marcos Alonso in the second half.

And after Kounde later converted Rashford’s ball into an own goal to put United ahead, Barca found a timely equalizer when Raphinha’s cross remained untouched.

But Rashford believes things could have been different had referee Maurizio Mariani ruled in his favour.

With United 2-1 up, the England star looked to be bundled up by defender Kounde as he charged towards Barcelona’s goal.

Mariani was close to the incident and was able to get a good look.

But he decided against giving Rashford the foul that took place on the edge of Barcelona’s penalty area.

It sparked an angry reaction from boss Erik ten Hag, who received a yellow card for his troubles.

And later, Rashford revealed he was speechless after Mariani’s decision.

At the same time, United’s dramatic draw that night felt more like defeat.

Rashford said: “It feels like a loss. I think we did well to get back into the game but we stayed calm and composed and created chances when we could.

“We felt like we were in control of the result after scoring two goals in quick succession but we just couldn’t keep going.

“We were looking for more chances after half-time and I felt like we were trying a little bit more, especially from behind.

“[My goal?] It’s difficult to find an angle to finish from there so I just tried to get as clean contact as possible and luckily it went in.

“[Kounde’s foul?] It’s a huge moment in the game and at that moment I didn’t understand why the assistant or referee thinks I’m going down there.

“I touched it past him and I go through and he cuts my leg. It’s a clear contact. It’s 100 percent a foul even if it was outside the penalty area.”
