A TOP attorney who quit her $75,000 regular job and taught herself to talk to animals is now making more money at her dream job – as a PET psychic.
Nikki Vasconez, 33, began researching how to talk to animals in September 2020 while working as a full-time real estate attorney, but after discovering her passion, she quit her job to become a full-time animal communicator a year later.
In September 2021, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native Nikki launched her Pet Psychic business on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok — and was fully booked for the next four months.
Nikki, who runs Nikki Vasconez Animal Communication, said: “I was so unhappy in my previous job, I had worked long hours and was just unhappy but too scared to change.
“Until that came.
“I started practicing on family and friends’ pets and some strangers’ pets for free, but once I created social media accounts, I began to garner a steady following and it wasn’t long before we were getting requests streamed in.
“When I set up my TikTok account I gained 175,000 followers in months and in January 2022 I had to stop taking bookings because I was so overwhelmed!
“Business has just picked up speed.
“I was working on assignments that had been secured for months.
“I couldn’t believe it – I had to create a waiting list that had a total of 4,000 people asking me to speak to their animals.”
Nikki, who lives with personal evolutionary coach Michael, 34, and their two teacup poodles, Donald, 7, and Merlin, 8, taught herself to communicate with animals through conducting her own research and writing a series of books about read the practice.
During a typical reading, Nikki sits in a quiet room at her home, where she studies a photograph of the animal and telepathically asks them a series of questions.
The psychic records her questions and the animal’s “answers” on her phone so owners can overhear the full exchange.
Nikki insists on seeing the animal’s eyes in the photo, and she is informed of the animal’s name, gender, and the names of the people in the house.
But she revealed she prefers not to know any more details about the animal to avoid her “human brain” interfering with the news.
Nikki explains: “When I communicate with the animals, I sometimes see images flash before my eyes or hear certain phrases.
“I don’t hear her accent or tone of voice, but I can always sense her personality.”
Nikki charges $350 for a one-hour session and limits her communications to two per day to ensure the best quality readings.
Animal Perception also offers services to speak to deceased animals — which accounts for about half of their requests.
She said: “Of the animals I have spoken to that have passed away, they are never upset, angry or hold grudges.
“In my experience, they’ve always just been happy and free and talking about how parts of their bodies have healed and ailments gone.
“I spoke to a cat who talked about being able to see after not being able to see when he was alive.
“I speak to deceased animals commenting on the lives of people who are still alive.
“I am convinced that where we are going, they will go.
“It changed my whole perspective on death because it’s a change, a transition, because I’ve never had a single animal that was sad.”
Choice of animals
The majority of the animals Nikki works with are pets such as dogs and cats, but she has also worked with geckos, bearded dragons, horses, cows, pigs, various birds and donkeys.
Her clients include pet owners who want to communicate with their pets, as well as stable owners and rescue owners who want to understand what is causing their animals pain or suffering.
Around 98 percent of the pet owners that Nikki approached are women.
She explained: “In my experience, husbands have been far more skeptical, but after receiving the recording of my communication with their pet, they are amazed.
“I spoke to a dog, Peter, who told me about a door in his family’s kitchen that kept getting stuck and driving the mother insane.
“When they later played the recording, her husband’s jaw dropped because it was absolutely accurate.
“It’s so much fun when that happens!”
Recalling another successful read, Nikki described talking to a cat, Finnegan, who she later found out had a toothache.
She recalled: “The owner had asked me for help when they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him because he was just lying in his owner’s bed and couldn’t do anything.
“Vets had ruled out dental problems because the X-ray showed no signs of a problem, but I just kept getting this pain in my own mouth while talking to him, so I figured he was telling me he had pain in his lower jaw.
“Turns out the X-ray showed he had an abscess and needed a tooth pulled!”
During another reading, Nikki kept hearing a dog, Odie, repeat the phrase, “You’re the best thing in the world.”
She said, “It was so funny when I told the owner that, she laughed and said, ‘I tell him that every morning!'”
On another occasion, Nikki spoke to Cruse, a horse who told her that she didn’t like his owner’s boyfriend.
She recalled: “Cruse told me not to worry because the boyfriend doesn’t like him either!
“I told the owner and she laughed and said it was all true.
“What I’ve definitely learned from my conversations is that our animals have opinions just like we do – it’s really funny!”
In addition to her readings, Nikki also offers workshops to teach others to talk to their pets.
She is convinced that anyone can learn to develop this skill.
She said: “Anyone can do this, I believe in it 100 percent.
“I didn’t make it from the start, but I learned.
“Animal communication is not a gift, it is a skill and a muscle that needs to be developed.
“We’re all psychic beings by nature, so it just takes practice.”
While many are interested in her services and have learned the skill themselves, Nikki has also faced criticism online from TikTok users who are suspicious of her claims.
She said: “There are a lot of people who are very skeptical and say I’m a scammer.
“I understand it can be confusing as we are raised to believe that interspecies communication is not the norm.”
“The criticism bothered me at first, but I’m no longer interested in it.”
Because of the success of her business, Nikki is now committed to helping people pursue their passions.
She said: “I was so unhappy as a lawyer.
“My days were long because I commuted 90 minutes each way.
“I left my house at 6 a.m. and didn’t get home until 6:30 p.m. at night.
“I was even involved in car accidents because I was so drained physically and mentally.
“I had a lot of student loans so I was reluctant to leave the law firm at first, but I took the leap of faith and I’m so glad I did.
“I couldn’t be happier doing what I love most right now.”
