Another week, another suspenseful Netflix thriller for us all to obsess over. Babak Anvari returns with his third feature film, I came overStarring George MacKay, Hugh Bonneville, Percelle Ascott and Kelly Macdonald.

Big spoilers ahead for I came over

I came over is a dark story rooted in class struggle. MacKay plays Toby, a graffiti artist who targets members of the elite and marks their homes to send them a message about their classism. Toby’s mission changes radically when he breaks into a retired judge’s basement and discovers a shocking secret that puts himself and everyone he loves in danger.

I Came By ended explained: Who were the prisoners in the basement?

While at Hector Blake’s house painting graffiti on the walls, Toby stumbles upon a terrifying discovery in Hector’s basement. Toby finds out that the retired judge is keeping a prisoner in a secret bunker hidden behind a shelf.

Growing up, Hector’s father hired a Parsi man named Ravi to help around the house. Ravi and Hector’s father became close and ended up sleeping together. Upon learning what had happened, Hector’s mother committed suicide. Ever since that happened, Hector has resented Ravi for coming into his house and “stealing” his life.

Hector capitalizes on his status as a respected judge, known for often volunteering to help immigrants kidnap and murder vulnerable people. He targets, captures and kills immigrants and asylum seekers. It’s his sick and twisted way of taking revenge on Ravi. The first victim Toby finds is just one of several people Hector has kidnapped and tormented over the years.

At the end of the film, Jay finds another prisoner in Hector’s new house. Though he’s moving, Hector wastes no time getting back to his ailing hobby. Some viewers may have mistakenly thought that the prisoner at the beginning of the film and the one at the end were the same man, but they are two different types.

Throughout the film, we know that Hector kidnaps at least two unnamed prisoners. He lures these men into his house under the pretense of helping them, then gives them drinks and captures them. Omid almost managed to escape Hector, but he later tracked him down and blackmailed him before killing him.

I Came By ending explained: what happened to Toby and Lizzie?

Poor Toby tries to save Hector’s victim, but ends up becoming one himself. Hector kills Toby off screen. We see him burning some of Toby’s clothes in the furnace he uses to dispose of corpses. He later flushes his ashes down the toilet. Toby’s mother, Lizzie, tries to find her son and falls into a trap set by Hector. He also kills her, albeit off-screen. We later see him burn Lizzie’s clothes and driver’s license, confirming her death.

What happens at the end of I Came By?

With all the disappearances and police intrigues, Hector flees his old home and moves away. When Jay realizes that Hector also killed Lizzie, he takes matters into his own hands. With a little help from Naz, Jay figures out where Hector will be next and then follows him to his new home.

Hector may have moved, but he still kidnaps and kills people. Jay attacks Hector and the two get into a heated argument which ends with Jay freeing Hector’s latest prisoner. He then tapes Hector up and leaves him as a gift for the police. But before he leaves, Jay puts one last “I Came By” graffiti tag on Hector’s wall.
