I bought a $7 dress while thrifting – I knew I’d get ‘really good money’ when I saw the brand, it sold for $93 more

A SAVVY savings collector has spotted a designer dress for just $7 at her local store, but has revealed how to sell the product to make a whopping $100.
Saving is a hobby for many as it allows shoppers to find used and quality clothing at reasonable prices.

However, some savers have shown how to actually turn the hobby into a lucrative sideline.
You can easily make a hefty profit by looking at Goodwill and other thrift stores for designer products.
All you have to do is resell your find online for ten times or more the price you bought it for.
TikToker @Murrayed_Life is proof of the trend in action.

The content creator, also known as Alicia Rodriguez-Murray, documents her side hustle reselling thrift to more than 120,000 followers.
In a recent video, Alicia found a designer dress for just $7 and said she could make nearly $100 in profit.
The reason the dress is so profitable online is because of its Diane von Furstenberg brand.
Alicia bought the dark evening dress for just $7.
“You can make really good money with this,” the TikToker shared while examining the garment. “I expect between $50 and $100 for that.”
Brand new Diane von Furstenberg dresses typically cost between $200 and $350.
A top designer brand, Diane von Furstenberg has established a reputation as the leading fashion line for workwear, special occasion and everyday dresses.
OTHER FINDS
The designer dress was just the beginning of Alicia’s many finds at her local thrift store.
Many other fashion items also make a whopping profit online compared to their retail prices, including an Ariat jean.
“By all means take them,” Alicia told viewers, especially with a brand new tag still attached to the pants.
“I’m expecting somewhere between $50 and $70 for this,” she added.
But there is another brand to look out for if you want to make a resale profit.
“If you ever see a new Vera Bradley vanity case with tags, make sure you snag these,” Alicia said.
During her own shopping spree, she bought a blue floral specimen and said she expects to make around $50 in profit.
They regularly sell for this price on eBay, but a used item could still fetch you a bit more pocket money.
Alicia also had a favorite swimsuit brand that she recommends to shoppers when they browse her local thrift store.
The swimwear is available under the Miraclesuit line, which offers various shapewear one-piece suits for body slimming effect.
While the used swimsuit was only $4 at a thrift store, Alicia said you can sell it online for around $50 because the brand is in such high demand.
The next brand you should know about is OneTeaspoon.
Alicia snagged a pair of plain white jean shorts for about $6.
However, there’s a secret resale win hidden in the shorts, as the TikToker said she tends to make $40 on anything from the brand.
“That’ll be a quick thing,” Alicia said.
Another quick surprise Alicia found was a whimsical white skirt from Free People.
For just $1, she was able to take the skirt home, where she plans to resell the item for $25.
By purchasing all of these items, Alicia can easily make several hundred dollars in profit with a quick trip to a thrift store.
savings tips
When it comes to saving, there are some items that you should focus more on than others if you plan to resell them online.
Some items, including vintage games, toys, and American folk art, could be rare collectibles that people spend big bucks on.
Even a vintage record or an old band t-shirt could sell for hundreds of dollars on eBay.
If you see an item that interests you, you should search eBay for similar products and see what they are selling for.
If the retail price is well above the thrift store price, you’re lucky and may have found something really special.
Also, be sure to stop by the accessory aisles and keep an eye out for valuable jewellery.
Designer bags and clothing are also occasionally left behind in thrift stores, and they are always sold at far lower prices than they are actually worth online.
Whenever you go to the thrift store, you should also plan your visit strategically.
Choose a time of day when people are less likely to congregate, such as a weekday morning.
This means that you have more time and space to browse through what the shop has to offer.
Also, be sure to check with the store staff when the “new arrival days” are, because you want to be first to get the best items.

A thrift dealer found the bargain of the century when he spotted two vintage games at the thrift store for $1 that cost up to $300 more.
Meanwhile, a popular gaming console sold at Goodwill for $15 with an undisclosed resale value of more than $100.
