I became a bodybuilder in my 60’s – I like wearing sparkling bikinis and now I’m performing at the Arnold Classic

One grandma has revealed that she feels more confident than ever as she loves to show off her physique in sparkling bikinis.

Renee Landers, 70, started competing at 69 and has never looked back – she says she now looks and feels as good as she ever did.

She didn’t start lifting weights until she was 60 while working to recover from an injury and undergo a spinal fusion.

And now she’ll be attending an event at the Arnold Classic next month.

The Houston, Texas grandma hopes she can be an inspiration to others while keeping her fans updated on Instagram.

With more than 12,000 followers, she has an account titled “Yes, I’m 70!”.

Renee feels like she looks better now than she did in her twenties.

“I have a wonderful coach who kept encouraging me to compete but I was too scared,” she shared on Facebook.

“It took me several years to get up the courage to put on a glittery bikini and go on stage in front of a bunch of strangers… but after that first show, I knew I had found my people.

“I didn’t look back and had the time of my life.”

Renee said she’ll soon be 71 – but she won’t stop as she continues to lift weights and compete.

She exercises five days a week, does cardio every day, and weighs 121 pounds since she’s 5 feet tall.

Renee shares pictures with her hashtags like “agelessbeauty”, “badassgrandma” and “sexyover60” and tries to be an inspiration.

“I had to overcome the fear, nerves and insecurity of being the oldest person in the building,” Renee told the Fit Is Freedom YouTube channel.

She also revealed that she hadn’t even told her friends that she planned to enter the competition.

“I didn’t want any negativity, I didn’t do any of those vibes,” she said.

“And after that I posted it on Facebook in my group.”

Her first competition was in May 2021 – she donned a bikini and competed in her first ever bodybuilding competition.

She was 20 years older than the next oldest person there and placed sixth.

Renee said: “We can be the elders with the best attitude and I’m looking forward to that – I’m just so bad I got over my fear that was the sparkling bikini and the verdict.”

The Supergran will now be attending the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio next month as part of the Angel Competition Bikinis Fashion Show.

“I can’t wait,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I am so grateful and honored for this opportunity to represent women of a certain age on this prestigious show.”

“Who does that at 70? MEEEEEEE!”

She added: “I really loved wearing this beautiful sparkly bikini to my last two competitions.

“I have yet to choose the 2 new sparkly bikinis I will be wearing for the upcoming show.”

Renee will also be speaking on the upcoming D&D Dialect podcast on February 5th.
