A famous TOP artist has bizarrely revealed he had a “sexual relationship” with the Mona Lisa after creating over a hundred versions of the iconic painting.
Domingo Zapata says he was so obsessed with the painting that he dreamed about and had sex with the Mona Lisa every night.
Now 26 of his digital photographs of the Mona Lisa are on display at the Louvre in Paris alongside the iconic portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci.
And Domingo, one of Leonardo DiCaprio’s favorite artists, believes his success is down to his ongoing relationship with Mona Lisa, which he says is both romantic and sexual.
Actor Leo owns one of Domingo’s sketches of the famous painting and recently missed a second $1 million bid during a UNICEF gala in St. Barts.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Domingo laughs how his love affair with the Mona Lisa has made him one of the world’s most in-demand artists for the rich and famous.
Domingo, who lives in New York, said: “I’ve been working with the Mona Lisa for 15 years. When I was painting
g her so much i would dream and i have a sexual relationship with her.
“You can’t stop where it takes you.
“It’s about touch, feelings, nudity”
“As an artist, the relationship with the canvas is intimate.
“The more you open up, the more risk you take – the more you express yourself.
“It becomes an obsession when you get interested in a subject and want to explore it more and more.”
Domingo says others drew his attention to his obsession and sexual chemistry for the painting.
“Diana Picasso – Picasso’s granddaughter, who is an art expert and a good friend of mine, asked me in the studio, ‘Are you dreaming about her… are you having sex with her?'” he said.
Of course I have sex with her in my dreams.”
“And I’m like, ‘Of course I have sex with her in my dreams. If I wasn’t having sex with her, I would have stopped a long time ago.”
He laughs at their offbeat romance: “It’s almost one of those toxic relationships that never goes away.
“You keep going back to it and you’re stuck even after 100 versions. I’m working on one right now. It’s a mess.”
The Louvre took 26 of Domingo’s Mona Lisa interpretations for the exhibition.
He beams with pride knowing his work stands alongside Da Vinci’s masterpiece.
Domingo said: “I thought it was a joke when they first approached me…
“Of course it’s a great honor. My reality has surpassed my dreams and I am thankful.”
Domingo sees parallels between Da Vinci and his journey, as the Renaissance superstar also spent years trying to perfect the image.
He said: “Leonardo painted the Mona Lisa at the age of 48 and traveled across Europe working on it for years before King Francis bought it. Even then it wasn’t finished, but he never really finished it.
“I’m 47 and I understand the journey.
“He tried many times, but he was never convinced by this piece. Mona Lisa grabbed him like everyone else grabbed it, including me.
“Maybe it’s meant to be unfinished”
Favorite of the rich and famous
Domingo, who lives in New York, has earned millions from art lovers paying six figures for his far-reaching work.
Back in January, Domingo’s latest Mona Lisa sold for more than $1 million in St. Barts, beating even Oscar winner Leonardo’s bid for the play.
After a heated bidding war led by Sotheby’s, Domingo’s Mona Lisa Bull Fighter fetched a total of $1,027,000 and was sold to an unnamed American collector.
The shock was so great that Zapata vomited in shock and fear.
“After the gavel landed, everyone came to take a picture and congratulate them,” he said.
“But I was so nervous that I threw up. I covered my shirt with a napkin, ran to the pool shower, took off my tuxedo and left my shirt on.
“I washed up, left my wet shirt on and came back in my tuxedo.”
“My body only reacted because I was so nervous
“It’s like winning an Oscar and throwing up when you give the speech.”
