I am a mother of two and refuse to use self checkout – it is a scam and puts me at risk of being accused of theft

A MOTHER of two has revealed the two reasons she refuses to use self-checkout.

While one of these is a matter of value, the other is something that could land you in legal trouble.

In a recent video, TikToker @Lifeunlimited_PLA said, “I don’t use self-checkout unless I absolutely have to for a few reasons, and here’s why.

High inflation

The first reason she highlighted was “the fact that we have had high inflation for 40 years. That’s the most we’ve paid for groceries in my entire adult life.”

She goes on to say that “there’s no point” in paying such high grocery prices, but still being expected to call, pack up, and successfully retrieve the entire load of goodies from the store yourself “while juggling my two young children.”

TikToker @Lifeunlimited_PLA calls this “ridiculous”.

High risk

“Anytime you use self-checkout, especially at Walmart, you run the risk of having them come to you with legal action if you accidentally miss something.”

Her second reason serves as a warning to shoppers at grocery chains and large stores who regularly use self-checkouts.

Cases in which customers are at court with Walmart have received increasing media attention.

“Walmart has been in overdrive lately.

“I saw article after article, TikTok after Tiktok.

Whether it’s “people who forgot to scan something, didn’t scan something right and didn’t notice because you’re not trained to scan those things because it’s not your job and you’re not a Walmart employee” , does not matter.

She got wind of the fact that the store “has people arrested and criminally charged with theft.”

She concluded, “Use the self-checkout, but at your own risk.”

Commenters were quick to agree with the mother-of-two, even going so far as to speculate as to why the brand is said to be swiftly being criminalized.

“Even if they don’t miss a thing, they will come after you when something falls short and they need someone to blame,” said one.

Another said they would only surrender to the self-checkout for short trips. “I only use it when I have a few items. If I’m shopping for groceries for two weeks, I’m not doing a self-checkout,” she commented.

A third commenter preached about a horror story that allegedly happened to a friend.

They said: “This happened to my friend. I forgot to scan some cheap makeup items (and) got fined $400 and banned from Walmart.”
