THAT was the awkward moment Kai Havertz had to pose with his Man of the Match trophy just seconds after his World Cup heartbreak.
The Chelsea forward scored twice as Germany beat Costa Rica 4-2 in the final group game.
However, the 23-year-old and his team-mates will still be sitting on the next flight home after Japan claimed a thrilling win over Spain.
The result saw the Adian side top Group E, while La Roja also progressed on goal difference despite the setback in front of Germany.
Havertz only came off the bench in the 67th minute for the four-time world champion instead of Thomas Müller.
But his quick double that put his nation 2-1 behind, although ultimately futile, was enough to earn him the top mark from Fifa sponsor Budweiser.
And that resulted in him being forced to pose with his Man of the Match trophy looking utterly exhausted.
While it must have been an agonizing moment for Havertz, rival supporters found the picture and the whole situation hilarious as they showed no mercy on Twitter.
One tweeted alongside a slew of laughing emojis: “His face says it all!”
Another commented: “He’s looking over the moon haha.”
