National Park Service rangers were called to Callville Bay on Lake Mead at 2 p.m. Saturday after human skeletal remains were discovered, 8NewsNow reported.

The Clark County Coroner is still determining the cause of death for the remains.

There is currently no suspicion of third-party negligence in this death, but the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier this month, a metal barrel filled with more skeletal remains was found on the shore of Lake Mead.

Authorities have determined that the remains belonged to a man who died in the 1970s or 1980s.

Lt. Ray Spencer told investigators at The New York Times that the man died from a gunshot wound.

He also told the outlet that detectives “definitely wouldn’t rule out” that the victim’s death could be Mafia-related.

The body was found near Las Vegas, known as a mob hotspot in the 1970s and 1980s.

Although the death occurred four decades ago due to the man’s clothing and shoes, police are still investigating the murder.

Experts are helping efforts to identify the body.

The Lake Mead area is facing a drought that is causing receding water mains to uncover skeletons of people missing for decades.

If the drought persists and the lake’s waters continue to recede, Spencer told the New York Times that it’s not unlikely that more bodies will be uncovered.

With little DNA collected in the 1970s and 1980s, it will be difficult for scientists to identify decades-old bodies.
