Archaeologists have found a total of two sphinx-like statues, which they believe stood about 8 meters at the time.

That would make them taller than the stones at Stonehenge, an average giraffe, and even a double-decker bus.

King Amenhotep III ruled Egypt from about 1386 BC until his death at the age of 50.

The fragments were found in the temple of his corpse which people at the time called the ‘Temple of Millions of Years’.

It was located in the ancient capital of Thebes, known today as Luxor.

The temple was destroyed after a devastating earthquake tore through the country in ancient times.

An Egyptian-German archaeological team, led by Dr Horig Sorosian, also discovered columns and walls decorated with ritual and ceremonial scenes that were part of the festival.

Abdel Rahim Rihan, from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, said: “This is one of the most important festivals for the ancient Egyptians to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the king’s ascension to the throne.

“Descriptions of this festival show the king on his throne full of power, with crowds around him rejoicing and excited, waiting for his speech that promises them another 30-year reign of prosperity. prosperous and luxurious.

“On this occasion, the king would also like to offer to the court.”

Archaeologists began the restoration mission in 1998.

During that time, they unearthed a number of large artifacts, including a statue of a goddess known as Sekhmet.

Experts are hoping to rebuild what remains and the temple back to their former glory.
