The severity of the injury was initially unknown, although United fans feared the worst.
However, it has since been claimed that the centre-back will miss United’s run-in for the 2022-23 season.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein tweeted: “Lisandro Martinez will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury sustained in Man Utd’s tie with Sevilla.”
Martinez, 25, is said to have sustained a metatarsal injury.
United boss Erik ten Hag shared his concerns for Martinez shortly after the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.
He said: “If Licha Martinez is out with no opponent involved, it doesn’t look that great.
“It doesn’t look that great.
“We’ll have to wait, I can’t say at the moment.”
France international Raphael Varane also contributed to Ten Hag’s bad luck with his own foot injury.
And it was said that the world champion could also miss the rest of the season.
Dutchman Ten Hag continued: “The same goes for Rapha [Varane].
“I didn’t speak to him after the game but I know of an injury lawsuit in recent weeks so we’ll have to see how it is now.”
