Howe confirms Wood is receiving medical attention “as we speak.”

Eddie Howe has revealed at Friday’s press conference – according to Chronicle Live – that Newcastle United striker Chris Wood is undergoing medical treatment ahead of a loan deal with a £15million purchase commitment at Nottingham Forest “as we speak”.

Wood, 31, only joined Newcastle in January 2022. He cost the Toon a huge £25m fee from Burnley and scored just five goals in 39 games for the Toon. He fell down the pecking order after Alex Isak signed.

Isak was injured and that has resulted in Wood staying in and around the side. But after the club record returned from injury and scoring the winner against Fulham last time out, Wood has now fallen to third choice.

Sky Sports were among a number of outlets to report Wood is joining Nottingham Forest on loan. A £15million commitment has been made. Howe has now confirmed that Wood is undergoing medical treatment at Forest “as we speak”.

Chris is currently undergoing medical treatment with Forest. He was a great player for us. He was outstanding. When we signed him, we were in a very difficult position. Outstanding on and off the pitch with his leadership and positivity.”

Howe: Newcastle striker Wood is undergoing medical treatment

It’s a move that suits all sides. Newcastle are getting a fair fee back for a player believed to have overpaid to sign for £25m. Wood joins a side that suits him and his playing time will increase dramatically.

Forest bring in a player who has a lot of experience fighting relegation. A forward who can give Forest a plan B or even a plan A. Of course, Forest has Emmanuel Dennis and Taiwo Awoniyi. But Wood will value his chances.
