How Ukrainian special forces could have used a remote-controlled truck bomb to blow up Putin’s favorite bridge

UKRAINIAN commandos could have used a giant truck bomb or a suicide drone to blow up Vladimir Putin’s favorite bridge.

Russia is furious after a huge gaping hole was blown in the £3.2billion Kerch Bridge – a highly symbolic link between Vlad’s mainland and annexed Crimea.

Incredible videos and images show the magnitude of the blast that collapsed part of the road and set fire to a fuel train on the adjacent railway line.

It’s a hammer blow to Russia’s already disastrous war effort in Ukraine, as it cripples part of its supply chain and shows how far the reach of Kiev’s military has grown.

The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown.

But the current leading theory – and the claim being made by Russia – is that the explosion was triggered by a truck bomb.

Video surveillance of the blast shows the blast on the roadway, which appears to be centered around a large semi-truck.

Russian authorities have also released images of a red large oil rig they claim was responsible for the explosion.

Camera footage from the bridge also shows the truck stopping at a checkpoint before being allowed onto the Kerch Bridge.

And the enraged Putin security service has also named the truck’s alleged owner, Samir Yusubov, from Krasnodar, Russia.

“I have nothing to do with what happened on the Crimean bridge,” he told BAZA media.

He suggested that Makhir, his father’s cousin, may have been behind the wheel and said he had been unavailable since the blast.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) – Kiev’s secret service, which operates a special unit – is said to be behind the explosion, according to the leading Ukrainian intelligence service Pravda.

The SGE has not yet commented on the allegations.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the attack – but has widely celebrated the blast and previously hinted it would attack the Kerch Bridge.

Kyiv’s presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak has also said that “answers should be sought from Russia”.

The truck, whose driver was not named, entered the 11-mile bridge from Russia, not Crimea.

Further elaborations on pro-Putin commentator Yuri Podolyaka’s truck-bomb theory claimed it could have been a remote-controlled blast planted by the Ukrainians.

It’s a monster job

Tony Spamer

He suggested the driver may have been “camouflaged in the dark” because of the “deadly cargo” they were transporting in the trailer – or it could have been a deliberate suicide squad.

Tony Spamer, a former British Army bridge demolitions expert, cast doubt on the truck bomb theory when speaking to the Wall Street Journal.

He stated such a blunt instrumental explosion would have blasted a whole into the street but not caused any structural collapse.

“You must attack the full width of the bridge. If you look at her, it looks like she was attacked from below,” Spamer said.

“It’s a monster job.”

The blast also ignited the nearby fuel train and further damaged the bridge — even as Russia boasts it will reopen it to both rail and road traffic today.

However, other theories about the strike point to a mysterious figure moving under the bridge, which was captured by CCTV just before the blast.

It has been suggested that this could be a suicide drone loaded with bombs.

And just weeks ago, a mysterious black boat washed up off the home of Putin’s Black Sea Fleet, Sevastopol.

It has been suggested that this was a Ukrainian suicide boat specially designed to ram enemy targets at speeds of up to 46 miles per hour.

Could one of these have been used to blow up the bridge?

Other theories circulating are that the Ukrainians may have launched a missile attack on the bridge.

Kyiv has long-range missiles in its arsenal and used anti-ship missiles to great effect when it sank the Moskva.

It could also have been explosives placed under the bridge by combat swimmers and then detonated remotely while commandos monitored the scene with a drone.

Russia has directly accused Kyiv of being behind the blast, as many Ukrainian officials praised the destruction of the much-hated bridge.

However, it has been suggested that power struggles within Russia and groups that want to undermine Putin could be behind the blast.

Putin is believed to be on the ropes – his future now depends on his success or failure in Ukraine.

Vlad personally opened the Kerch Bridge and it was seen as a symbol of his illegal annexation of Crimea.

It represents the only road link between mainland Russia and the occupied territory, which was illegally confiscated in 2014.

And perhaps most symbolically, the attack came the day after Putin turned 70.

There have been suggestions that Putin could address the nation about the bridge blast amid fears it will wreak more havoc in Ukraine, and has already hinted he could use nuclear weapons.

Russia’s investigative committee said it had “opened a criminal case in connection with the Crimean bridge incident,” adding that “a truck was blown up.”

It comes as Ukraine has become more confident in predicting that it will retake the Crimean peninsula in recent days.

However, Ukraine’s achievements only fuel fears that Putin might do something stupid to try to save face.

But celebrations over the progress were muted after US President Joe Biden warned that the world was on the brink of nuclear “Armageddon” for the first time in 60 years.

The US president said Putin is “not joking” about nuclearizing Ukraine as the Russian tyrant’s forces continue to lose massive tracts of land.

In a chilling warning, Biden said Putin’s plan to use nuclear weapons was the greatest such threat since the Cuban Missile Crisis — one of the most dangerous periods of the Cold War.

The Cuban Missile Crisis erupted in 1962 when the Soviet Union responded to a US missile deployment in Turkey by sending ballistic missiles to Cuba – just a few kilometers from the US coast.

It sparked a tense two-week standoff that brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

On Thursday night, Biden said the United States was trying to “figure out” Putin’s way out of the war while Ukraine continued to rampage across the country.

He warned that the Russian leader “doesn’t joke when he discusses the possible use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons because his military is… well below average.”

“For the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, we have a direct threat to use nuclear weapons if things actually continue as they are,” Biden said.

“We haven’t faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis.”

He added, “I don’t think there is such a thing as the ability to just (deploy) a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up in Armageddon.”
