Who was Tammy Wynette married to?

Eupel Byrd

Tammy married Euple in 1960 when she was 18 years old.

He was an unemployed construction worker and they moved many times.

By the time Wynette was 20, she had two daughters.

While pregnant with her third child, she decided to divorce Byrd.

Wynette packed up and moved to Nashville with the kids in 1966, hoping to be a singer.

Don Chapel

Don Chapel was Tammy’s second husband, whom she met after moving to Nashville in 1965.

Don worked as a receptionist at the Red Anchor Motel in Nashville, where Tammy was staying.

After dating for quite a while, the two finally married in 1967.

Their marriage was short, however, as Tammy’s growing affection for another man led to the couple’s divorce in 1968.

Tammy claimed in her autobiography that Don took her inappropriate pictures and shared them with other male colleagues.

Don denied the allegations and later fined Tammy $37 million.

Chapel died in 2015.

George Jones

Goerge and Tammy were married from 1969 to 1975.

They were country music royalty and eventually had a daughter.

However, their relationship ended in divorce because Jones struggled with substance abuse.

Although they went their separate ways, they continued to work together sporadically decades later.

Michael Tomline

In 1977, Wynette married a businessman named Michael Tomlin.

According to the podcast “Cocaine and Rhinestones,” he was dating her hairstylist, while she was reportedly dating a couple of men before they started dating.

Their marriage was short-lived and they reportedly separated after less than two months.

George Richey

Richey was previously a songwriter, music publisher and record producer.

Tammy and Richey had a professional relationship prior to their marriage.

But after one night’s recording session, he confessed his love to Wynette and the couple later married in 1978.

Although Wynette has told the press that she loves Richey, her family and friends have claimed that she regrets her decision to marry him.

“It was an emotionally abusive relationship,” shared her daughter Georgette Jones.

They remained together until her unexpected death in 1998.

Richey later married Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Sheila Slaughter in 2001.

He died in 2010 at the age of 74.
