Kevin first signed onto the western TV drama in May 2017.

In addition to playing one of the main characters, he is also the executive producer of the show.

The Oscar winner takes on the role of rancher and governor of Montana, John Dutton III.

At the 2023 ceremony, Kevin took home the award for Best Actor – TV Series Drama.

Regarding the development of the program and what drew him to Yellowstone, he told Deadline, “I like to think my tastes are broad, but a lot of people think I do everything with a horse.

“Western themes are very difficult to pull off. There’s a tendency to think white hat, black hat, and it’s a lot more complicated than that.

As season five progressed, he reportedly asked to film for 50 days instead of the normal pre-production schedule.

It is believed that Kevin asked for adjustments to the filming schedule due to his commitments to direct, write and star on Horizon.

Horizon is a western film commissioned by Warner Bros. Filming is slated for spring 2023.

The Paramount Network denied the rumors, saying: “We have no news to report.

“Kevin Costner is a huge part of Yellowstone and we hope that will be the case for a long time to come.

“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we continue to work on franchise expansions of this incredible world he built.”

Although Kevin’s exit has not been confirmed, Paramount has stated its intention to continue the franchise with a different spinoff and storyline.

How many Yellowstone offshoots are there?

Yellowstone’s success led to Paramount greenlighting three spin-offs.

1883 is the first fork and was led by Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

The story continued in the second part of 1923, led by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

Bass Reeves will be the third installment in the franchise and will star David Oyelowo and Dennis Quaid.

Matthew McConaughey is also rumored to be in talks to direct a fourth episode.
