How is Neil Diamond?

Diamond stopped touring after his Parkinson’s diagnosis in January 2018.

In April 2023, he spoke to CBS News about the need to accept his illness.

When asked about the difficulties of giving up touring, the music legend said: “Oh I still haven’t given up. still. It’s very hard.

“In a way, I was in denial for the first year or two. When the doctor told me what it was, I just wasn’t ready to accept it. I said, ‘Oh, okay. See you, you know, whenever you want to see me. But I have work to do, so I’ll see you later.'”

He then spoke more about his struggle to come to terms with his diagnosis, saying, “I still do it. And I don’t like it. Okay, so this is the hand that God gave me and I have to make the best of it, and that’s who I am.”

Diamond then revealed he’s only just started to accept it “in the last few weeks.”

He added: “But somehow a calm has settled in [into] the hurricane of my life and it has become very quiet, as quiet as this recording studio.

“And I like it. I find that I like myself better. I’m simpler with people, I’m simpler with myself. And the beat goes on and will go on long after I’m gone.”
