At least 10 unlucky thrill-seekers were aboard the “Abismo” ride at Parque de Atracciones in SpainCapital Madrid.
The ride promises adrenaline junkies speeds of at least 105 km/h as it twists and turns and plummets more than 50 m (160 feet).
But on Wednesday, a technical glitch left passengers trapped inside the roller coaster car, who were pointing straight up at the very top of the ride.
The ride collapsed just after 9 p.m., just before the park was scheduled to close for the day.

According to Spanish News Today, visitors were unable to move for more than an hour even though the park around them was closed.
Eventually, those trapped were freed and climbed down, reports El Diario.
Temperatures in Madrid hit a muggy 37C on Wednesday.
According to Europa Press, no injuries were reported and the emergency services were not called.
The park opened as usual on Thursday afternoon.
“Abismo,” meaning “abyss,” is advertised on the park’s website as one of the “most exclusive” and “most spectacular” roller coasters of its kind in the world.
It states: “Abismo draws figures in the air like corkscrews, hills or inversions that you will experience from within.
“You’ll have the most impact on the final part of the track, as she’ll climb back up to the coaster’s tower, but on this occasion she’ll fall on her back,” the website adds.
Parque de Atracciones has said all of its rides are checked daily and have a strict safety protocol.
It attributed Wednesday’s disruption to a specific technical error, reports Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
The news comes just weeks after a 14-year-old girl died in a horror roller coaster accident in Denmark.

Shocked witnesses reported hearing a “loud bang” as the rear car of the Cobra roller coaster ride went off the tracks at Tivoli Friheden in Aarhus, just under 100 miles from the capital Copenhagen.
The park, one of Denmark’s most popular, was evacuated after the crash.
