Shocking footage of Friday’s attack shows the married father of two being pinned to the ground by another man.

Alika, 39, was selling goods on a street in the beach town of Civitanova Marche when someone grabbed his crutch and hit him after an exchange of words, police officers say.

Video shows the attacker wrestling Alika on his back on the sidewalk as he tried to fight back.

Daniel Amanza, who runs the ACSIM association for immigrants in the area, claimed the attacker became angry when Alika told the man’s partner she was “beautiful”.

Alika reportedly said, “Bella, can you buy some tissues or give me a euro.”

Police investigator Matteo Luconi said: “The attacker went after the victim and first hit him with a crutch.

“He dropped him to the ground, then finished the death, repeatedly striking with his bare hands.”

Bystanders called emergency services after the attacker fled the scene, taking Alika’s phone.

An autopsy will determine whether death was caused by beatings, asphyxiation, or some other cause.

Luconi said the attacker lashed out after the seller insisted on spending money.

Police arrested a 32-year-old Italian man identified as Filippo Claudio Giuseppe Ferlazzo after using cameras to track his movements.

He was being held on suspicion of murder and theft for allegedly picking up the victim’s phone.

Police interviewed witnesses and viewed videos of the attack. They said the suspect did not give a statement.

Amanza said: “The tragic fact is that there were a lot of people around.

“They filmed and said stop, but no one moved to separate them.”

The horror murder was widely condemned in Italy.

Enrico Letta, former prime minister and leader of the left-wing Democratic Party, said: “The murder of Alika Ogorchukwu is shocking.

“Unprecedented savagery. Widespread indifference. There can be no justification.”

Civitanova Marche Mayor Fabrizio Ciarapica met with members of the Nigerian community after hundreds demonstrated on Saturday.

He said: “My condemnation is not only for the (crime) but also for indifference.

“This is something that has shocked the citizens.”
